Delay

It looks as though some of the players still haven't arrived yet ("Hmmm, play for €880,000 or shall I spend another five minutes in bed?") so we think the final table probably won't be starting for at least another 10 minutes or so yet.

It's The Final!

It's almost time for the final!

It is quiet with just the sounds of quiet conversations going on around the room. At the far end of the main hall in the Casino Barriere the organisers have built up an impressive main stage. On one side of the stage you have the coveted trophy and on the other you have an iced bowl of drinks for the players.

Alex Wice is dancing to the sounds of Rihanna in the background. He has his familiar purple woollen hat on with a set of white headphones over the top. Kaspars Renga is deep in conversation with Ruslan Pryryk. Anthony Hnatow has just arrived into the hall being pursued by a cameraman. Julien Claudepierre is leant against a table with his headphones draped around his neck. Our chip leader Martin Jocobson is missing his trademark white cap but looks very smart for this special occasion and Lucie Cohen is just pacing backwards and forwards, chewing gum no doubt dreaming about the next few hours of play.

Tournament Director Thomas Kremser has just called everyone to take their seats and the flashes from the cameras are buzzing around the room

It is nearly time for the final.

It is All About Winning Chips

Alex Wice has started like a house on fire but the person who wins the most pots will not necessarily win the tournament; but the guy who wins the most chips most certainly will.

In hand one Alex Wice raised to 110,000 under the gun and everyone folded and he won 115,000 uncontested. In hand two everyone folded to Alex Wice in the big blind and he won another 110,000 uncontested.

In hand three the action folded around to Wice in the small blind and his opponent in the big blind was Kenny Hallaert. Wice raised to 120,000 and Hallaert called. The flop was {k-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {q-Hearts} and Wice bet 140,000 and Hallaert called. The turn wass {7-Spades} and Wice check-called a 240,000 bet by Hallaert. The river was the {3-Hearts} and again Wice checked and again Hallaert bet; making it 340,000. The usual quick-fire Wice slowed down and you could tell he had a marginal decision to make. In the end he decided to call and it was a good decision because his {q-Clubs} {j-Hearts} was good enough to beat Hallaert's verbal announcement of ace high.

Then in the fourth hand Kaspars Renga raised to 165,000 in the cut off and Wice three bet to 330,000 from the button. The blinds folded and Renga moved all-in and Wice called. Renga has {a-Hearts} {a-Clubs} and Wice had {q-Diamonds} {j-Diamonds}. The board didn't change anything and Renga doubled up.

Board: {6-Hearts} {k-Spades} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {q-Spades}

Renga ~ 746,000

So Wice won three and lost one but more importantly he added some chips to his stack.

Short Cuts

It's just been a series of small hands since Kaspars Renga's double up.

Kenny Hallaert raised to 135,000 in the cutoff and was called by Lucien Cohen on the button. Hallaert bet out 160,000 on the {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop and Cohen called; Hallaert then check-folded on the {3-Spades} turn.

Meanwhile Alex Wice has got back a few a of the chips he lost in doubling up Renga. The first time Wice opened to 130,000, everyone folded and he picked up the blinds and antes. The second time Wice opened, two hands later, he got a call from Hallaert, but Wice bet out another 160,000 on the {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop and Hallaert gave it up.

Renga has also further upped his stack - he raised to 140,000 under the gun and everyone folded, leaving him to pick up the blinds and antes. He got a round of applause from the rail.

Ruslan Prydryk is Eliminated in 8th Place (€66,800)

Ruslan Prydryk eliminated in 8th place

Ruslan Prydryk will not be improving upon his 5th place finish at EPT Warsaw back in season six after being eliminated at the hands of Julien Claudepierre.

Claudepierre raised to 130,000 from early position and Prydryk moved all-in from the button for around 900,000 and Claudepierre made the call.

Claudepierre: {a-Spades} {q-Spades}
Prydyrk: {6-Spades} {6-Diamonds}

The flop catapulted Claudepierre into the lead when it came down {a-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} but the turn of {3-Diamonds} gave Prydyrk a lot more outs with any diamond, six or five lying in the deck waiting to help the Ukrainian out.

The river was the {3-Hearts} and Prydyrk was out first player eliminated.

Last Six Hands

Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson continues to be the most active player at the table, but he's encountered some resistance so far.

Jacobson opened to 130,000 from late position and purloins the blinds and antes.

Jacobson opened to 130,000 but Kenny Hallaert reraised to 370,000 out of the small blind. Jacobson counted his opponent's remaining stack but declined to call.

Julien Claudepierre opened to 140,000 and won the blinds and antes.

Lucien Cohen opened to 170,000 and picked up the blinds.

Cohen opened to 140,000 but Martin Jacobson 3-bet the small blind to 380,000, Cohen instantly called without any hesitation to see a {7-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {5-Spades} flop. Jacobson carefully put out a bet of 410,000 and Cohen snap-raised to 900,000, Jacobson folded.
