Groundhog Deauville
Good morning and welcome back to Deauville, home of a rather good race track, some very good butter, and France's biggest poker tournament. It's still raining here, but that shouldn't bother anyone in the slightest as we're tucked up in the cosy confines of the Casino Barriere's annex and we'll soon be coming face to face with another eight levels of EPT.
Yesterday 419 players competed, meaning that we only need 350 today to improve on last year's 768-strong field. Given that Day 1b is traditionally somewhat larger than Day 1a, that shouldn't be a problem. Among those expected to take to the felt today are Team PokerStars Pros Arnaud Mattern, Liv Boeree, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, the latter making his European debut as a Team Pro. They'll all be hoping to end the day rubbing statistical shoulders with Guillaume de la Gorce, Bruno Launais and Julien Muel who topped the chip counts at the end of play yesterday.
Play is due to start at noon and even taking into account the traditional Day 1 delays, we should be getting this familiar party started within an hour or so. Stay tuned to PokerNews and we'll bring you all the action as it happens.
