Snack Break

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We're four levels into Day 2, and we've reached the big break. This one will last 30 minutes, enough time for the players to find something to eat, drink, smoke, or what have you.

We'll be back right around 6:40 P.M. local time to play out the last two levels.

Cut in Half

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

It's pretty impressive what we're doing here. Four levels into this day, we've already dropped half our starting field as just 207 players remain. The average stack is right around 50 big blinds. With two more levels still to play, we may only have around 120 players left by the end of the night.

Bryn Bounces Back

Bryn Kenney has been grinding hard with a stack of between 50-70,000 chips for the bulk of the day, and he's finally found his double. It came at the hands of Sam El Sayed who opened the pot in question to 6,500 under the gun. Kenney three-bet shoved for 60,000 exactly, and El Sayed quickly called with his covering stack. It was a flip.

Showdown
El Sayed: {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}
Kenney: {3-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}

The {8-Spades} {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts} flop was just fine for Kenney, and he nodded in approval when the {3-Spades} landed on fourth street. That gave him an unbeatable set, and the river {7-Clubs} was unimportant.

Clickity-click

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Selbst deep in thought
Selbst deep in thought

A long and drawn out preflop hand played out between Thomas Larsen and Vanessa Selbst. There was no showdown but it was fascinating watching (imagining) the cogs turn in both players' heads as they clicked the action back and forth.

Larsen opened the pot with a raise to 5,200 from mid position before the Team PokerStars Pro three-bet to 12,400 from hijack. There was a bit of confusion when Larsen wanted to min four-bet but that was cleared up and he made it the required 19,600 to go.

All the while Selbst was studying the Swede's movements before she decided to five-bet to 52,400. Larsen took his time now, counted how much he had left, and then moved all-in for 189,800.

There was no immediate called from Selbst. Instead she said, "That backfired!" She continued with, "Why didn't I just shove? That would've made more sense."

She procrastinated for a while longer before folding and tapping the table saying, "Well done" to Larsen. She then admitted that she had a suited ace.

Selbst dropped a lot of chips there but is still cruising on 350,000, whereas Larsen rose to 225,000.

Rettenmaier Gives Up

Marvin Rettenmaier fired 4,200 on the {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop before Boris Becker folded from the next seat. Michele Aniello was next up and he made the call to see the turn.

The turn was the {K-Diamonds} and after Rettenmaier checked, Aniello checked behind.

The river completed the board with the {J-Spades} and Rettenmaier checked. Aniello fired 5,100 and Rettenmaier gave it up.

Razavi Reels them in

Sam Razavi has doubled-up to more than 70,000 chips. He open shoved for 34,000 from the button. Guillaume Darcourt was in the small blind and called whilst saying, "I have to call you."

Darcourt: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Razavi: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

The board ran a Brit friendly {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Razavi stood up (cameras now on him) and shouted, "The patience pays. Reel, Reel them in" all while pretending to reel-in big game fish. Comedy moment from the UKIPT Cork champ.

Darcourt dropped a bit to 385,000 chips.

El Sayed Can't Beat Eights

From under the gun, Sam El Sayed opened with a raise to 6,500. Noureddine Ziane was in the next seat and flatted before action folded to Guillaume Darcourt in the big blind. He also called and the three players went to the flop.

The first three community cards produced the {Q-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Darcourt checked. El Sayed bet 11,200 and Ziane called. Darcourt folded.

The turn brought the {Q-Clubs} and El Sayed check-called a bet of 10,000 from Ziane to see the {7-Clubs} fall on the river. Both players then checked.

El Sayed couldn't beat the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} that Ziane held and he lost the pot to drop back to 237,000 in chips.
