Chip Counts

Here are the chip counts after the first two levels, and we have an unlikely chip leader in the shape of Loykia Lypraioy. Lypraioy is the female foe described by Homer in the hand he wrote earlier entitled The Tide is Not Mat-terning

Better in Theory

Theo Jorgensen has dropped down to less than 15,000 after he fired 4,000 on the turn of a {K-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Spades} board, only for Michael Benvenuti to check-raise him all in. Jorgensen spent a few minutes fiddling with his chips but eventually released his hand.

"Show the bluff...it's good for the game."

Benvenuti granted him no such wish.

Phee Reduced

Kevin MacPhee has dropped to about 36,000 after he three-bet preflop against Christos Xanthopoylos and fired bets of 1,350 and 3,125 on the flop and turn of a {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{Q-Spades} board. His Greek opponent called both bets before both players checked the {4-Spades} river.

MacPhee showed {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} but he couldn't beat his opponent's {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for the pot.

Byron Kaverman Watch

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Byron Kaverman is a player who has wandered onto the European poker scene this season and likes what he sees. He is currently fairing very well with just under 60,000 chips. We had a little chat with him and he told us about his biggest pot to date.

The play was four-handed on a flop of {A-} {5-} {4-} and Kaverman made a c-bet to 800 and two players called. The turn was the {J-Hearts} (putting a back door heart draw on the board) and the play checked to the button who bet 1,700. The small blind folded but Kaverman made the call. The final card was the {10-Hearts} and Kaverman decided to just check-call. The bet sizing on the river was 3,500 and Kaverman turned over {J-} {J-} and his opponent mucked his hand.

Rousso Backdoors Into Flush

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso fired out a bet of 700 on a flop of a {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} against David Elyashar who check-called. Both players checked the {5-Diamonds} turn before Elyashar also checked the {9-Diamonds} river, Rousso now bet 2,200 and Elyashar made the call but could only muck when Rousso showed {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the double gutshot that turned into a flush.

Randy Lews-es

We have just lost online phenom Team PokerStars Online pro Randy Lew and here is the hand.

Anastasios Kotsaris raised to 525 from early position and when the action folded around to Randy Lew on the button he three-bet to 1,325. Both blinds folded and Kotsaris four-bet to 3,000. The tension in the hand was building and Lew added to that tension with a five-bet to 5,500. By this time everyone knew that all of the money was going in the middle and so it was when Kotsaris moved all in and Lew called. It was the inevitable showdown and Lew was already packing up his things before the first community card was dealt.
