Day 1a Started

Welcome to Day 1a of EPT Copenhagen

Good morning and welcome to the Casino Copenhagen, Denmark and the European Poker Tour (EPT). It is, of course, Day 1a of the most prestigious poker tour in Europe and if you want to know every check, fold and raise then you have come to the right place.

This DKK 37,250 event is talked about as possibly one of the toughest EPT events of the calendar year because of its origins in Scandinavia. The Scandinavians are some of the toughest poker players on the planet and this is why the pros say it is one of the toughest to beat.

In Season 7 it was a Scandinavian, Michael Tureniec, who won the first prize of DKK 3,700,000 after defeating fellow Swede Per Linde heads up. John Eames finished in 3rd place in that event and he will be joining the shenanigans in Day 1b, which starts tomorrow.

Action is underway at 12.00 (CET) and so whom do we have playing? Well last night we had a few drinks with former EPT & WPT Champion Roberto Romanello. We also saw former EPT champions Rupert Elder and David Vamplew heading out into the Danish air for a spot of food with Melanie Weisner and Dominik Nitsche.

Team PokerStars will be sending along their top pros to once again do battle. The first prong of attack includes Pierre Neuville, Arnaud Mattern, Theo Jorgensen, Johnny Lodden and Viktor Blom. Also keep your eye out for probably the best player never to win an EPT. Martin Jacobson is here, and fully recovered after his car crash on his way home from EPT Deauville recently.

So go and eat your breakfast, go for a run, kick the cat whatever it is you do on a Monday morning - just make sure you are back with Pokernews at 12.00 (CET) for all of the action from EPT Copenhagen.

Vidrobrigsvor Wins Early Pot

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Over on Table 25 play is five-handed and it is the home to Team PokerStars Pro Pierre Neuville. From UTG+1 Dag Vidrobrigsvor opened the betting to 250 and when the action folded to Neuville, in the small blind, he made the call.

The flop came down {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Neuville tapped the table and checked. Vidrobrigsvor kept up the aggression and set the price to play at 525 but it was too high for the Belgian and he quickly got out of the way.

First blood to Vidrobrigsvor.

Calm Down, It's Only Jan Molby

The name Jan Molby will not mean much to our non European readers, but he was one of Demark's finest exports to British football. The majestic midfielder starred for Liverpool in the 1980's and 1990's. By the end of his career he was just famous for his adoption of the local Scouse (Liverpool) accent as he was for spreading passes from central midfield.

Molby last appeared at EPT Copenhagen in Season 2 and things have changed somewhat since then. Let's hope he doesn't think he's gotten off to a great start when he sees 30,000 chips in front of him, as players started with 10,000 back in Season 2.

Duzgun Utilises Power Of Position

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

After two players folded the action was on Danny Nees and he looked down at his holecards, like what he saw and promptly made it 250 to play from the hijack seat. The cutoff passed but Endravuz Duzgun called from the button. The small blind, and Team PokerStars Pro Arnaud Mattern in the big blind left the active duo to fight it out amongst themselves.

Flop: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} - Nees wasted little time in putting a continuation bet into the mix, a bet of 350. It was a bet that Duzgun was prepared to call and he tossed a single purple 500 chip across the betting line.

Turn: {10-Clubs} - The ten of clubs on the turn, or possible the call on the flop, slowed down Duzgun as he now checked. Duzgun was in no mood for checking it back though and he bet 550, which happened to be enough because Nees folded and Duzgun helped himself to an early pot.

O'Dwyer and Elder

Not your usual whizz, bang, wallop start to an EPT and in fact there is a fairly pedestrian stream of players taking their pews. One guy who had taken his seat, on time, is poker journeyman Steve O'Dwyer. He was primed and ready to go and is yet to lose a pot. In the first ten minutes he has won three uncontested pre flop pots, placed the small blind limper in his place with a raise and then won this post flop confrontation.

O'Dwyer raised to 300 in middle position and the big blind called. The flop was {5-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} and the big blind led with a 300 bet and O'Dwyer made the call. That was the end of the action as the {3-Hearts} and {Q-Clubs} were checked through and O'Dwyer picked up the pot holding {A-Hearts} {9-Spades}.

Then Rupert Elder took his seat on the same table and entered the action almost immediately. Philip Jacobsen made it 300 to play from first position and Elder cold called from the cutoff. The dealer gave us the {A-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {2-Spades} on the flop and Elder called the 300 Jacobson c-bet. The {6-Spades} on the turn was checked by both parties before we saw the final card {9-Diamonds}. Jacobsen checked to Elder, who bet 650 and it was enough to win the pot.

Gergo Santha Flexes His Muscles

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Gergo Santha has just helped himself to a substantial pot after a clash with Thomas Svensen ended on the flop.

Joining the action on a flop reading {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} Santha tested the waters from the big blind seat with a bet of what looked like 1,050 only to see the player to his immediate left, Svensen, raise to 3,025. Santha was not with his hand though and he took back his initial bet before replacing it with 9,000. Svensen suddenly didn't like his hand so much and his cards found their way into the muck.

Unbalanced Table

Table 25 almost looks as if it's on uneven ground, such are the heavy weight players at one end of it. The first four seats contain Roberto Romanello, Jan Molby, Soren Kongsgaard, and Pieree Neuville. Ouch.

Romanello is off to best best start and in his usually chirpy mood and entering lots of pots. He has reason to be chirpy at this stop as he made the final table here two seasons ago. He came sixth for $104,355.
