Cody Tries, Tries Again

Pablo Ubierna opened to 500 from early position, and he was called by Angel Guillen and Memik Sezer before the action came around to the blinds. In the big, Jake Cody looked down at his cards and squeezed in a reraise to 2,400. That folded Ubierna, but Guillen and Sezer came along for the extra to see a three-way flop.

It came {Q-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {K-Spades}, and Cody continued out with another 3,600. Guillen folded without incident, but Sezer matched the bet to see the next card. The turn came the {J-Hearts}, and Cody gave up. He checked, then folded with a frown to a bet of 6,500.

Molander Needs all Three Bullets

Jonas Molander had to work hard to get Mike McDonald off a hand. The Swede and Jan Bendik both called the Canadian's 475 open en route to a {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop.

The action was checked to Molander in the cut-off and he bet 750. McDonald was the only caller after he stared down the "still" baby faced player. The turn came {q-Clubs} and Molander bet 2,200. McDonald stared him down again, and called again.

The river was {2-Diamonds} and McDonald believed this time as he checcked-stared-folded to Molander's third bullet for 4,700.

Vamos, Tortuga!

We mentioned earlier about the gregarious Venezuelan with the turtle figurines, and we've just caught him involved in an all-in pot. It began with Andre Pereira opening to 400 in early position. Around the table, our hero, Vincenzo Gianelli stuck in a three-bet to 1,225. When it folded back around to Pereira, he quickly reraised with a covering stack of red chips, and Gianelli was put to the test. He had 7,550 chips total, and he spent a minute prodding Pereira for information.

"Will you show if I fold?" he asked.

"No," Pereira said flatly. "I never show my cards."

"Okay," Gianelli answered as he grabbed all of his chips in one hand. "Let's play." He placed his chips into the middle of the table, and he was flipping for his tournament life.

Showdown
Pereira: {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}
Gianelli: {7-Clubs} {7-Spades}

"Vamos, tortuga!" Gianelli said as he stood up to sweat his fate. The dealer gave him a friendly {6-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} flop, and he talked the dealer through the last two cards. "Easy," he pleaded, pushing his hands down toward the floor as he rooted for low cards.

Turn: {4-Spades}

"Okay, one more time. Easy."

River: {2-Hearts}

With a clap of the hands and a little pump of the fist, Gianelli has found his double, rebounding to about half his starting stack with 15,800.

Drawing a Blanco

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Ole Kristian [Removed:332], the Norwegian youngster who was a big chip leader here last year at the Grand Final is back to try his luck once more at this year's EPT. The Norwegian check-called a bet of 1,300 on a {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop against Antonio Blanco Saiz before both players checked the {A-Diamonds} turn.

Negard then led out for 3,100 on the {J-Spades} river but Saiz snapped him off and [Removed:332] was forced to show {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, no good versus the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} of Saiz.

Tournament room
Tournament room

The number on the board has been stuck at 335 runners since just before the break, so that's a fair estimate of our field size. We'll give it about a dozen extra as we've seen a few more players trickling into the room late. Some of them were almost turned away from the registration window, but more on that from Homer in a moment.

In any event, we'll venture a guess that we've climbed very close to 350 runners today. We'll bring you the official number and the prize pool as soon as it's made available to us.

Elder-ly Drivers

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Rupert Elder and Melanie Weisner are probably the very last players to sit down in the tournament. The pair had rented a car in an attempt to trump the problems of possible shuttle buses being late/delayed. However, they managed to drive for about an hour and twenty minutes, getting severely lost before eventually finding the casino. The damage to both players' stacks hasn't been too bad however, they've only lost around 500 chips each.
