Day 3 on the Horizon

Carla Sabini - Chip leader
Carla Sabini - Chip leader

The third and final day of the £10,000+300 EPT10 London High Roller is set to begin in a half hour or so, and leading the 12 remaining players is Canadian Carla Sabini. Sabini bagged 1.346 million after Day 2, and needs to finish fifth or higher to record the largest score of her career. Joining her atop the counts are fellow Canadians Jason Lavallee and Sorel Mizzi, and Brits Tamer Kamel and David "Devil Fish" Ulliott.

The defending champion of this event, Talal Shakerchi, is still alive and looking to defend his title. Shakerchi lost a sizable pot to the Devil Fish near the end of Day 2, and will start the final day with just over 17 big blinds.

Rounding out the final 12 players are Frederik Jensen, Ariel Celestino, Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano, Antonio Lafosse, and Mark Teltscher.

The cards will be in the air at noon local time, and we will be on hand to watch the remaining dozen players compete for the first-place prize of £357,700 and the title of high roller champion.

Talal Shakerchi moved all in for 320,000 from the small blind, and the action was on Canadian Jason Lavallee in the big. He sat quietly for the better part of a minute, re-checked his cards, then sighed.

"You might've gotten me with that GTO talk yesterday," he said.

Shakerchi chuckled.

"GTO" is short for game theory optimal, and it seems as if Lavallee was convinced that Shakerchi could be shoving light, because he called and tabled {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}.

Shakerchi wasn't as light as Lavallee expected, turning over {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

The flop, turn, and rive came out {7-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Spades}, and the defending EPT London high roller champion doubled to 658,000 chips. Lavallee fell to 830,000.

Ariel Celestino Eliminated in 12th Place (£26,155)

While Talal Shakerchi was doubling, we heard that there was an all in and a call at the feature table. We hustled over to see that Ariel Celestino was all in with {q-}{4-} against Sorel Mizzi's {a-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, and the board was completed {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. We're unsure when the money went in the middle — we presume it happened on the flop or the turn — but we are certain that Celestino was eliminated in 12th place, earning £26,155.

Jason Lavallee opened to 42,000 in middle position, Carla Sabini tried to raise to 44,000 on the button, not seeing that Lavallee had already raised, and then opted to call. Luca Pagano moved all in for 476,000 from the small blind, and Talal Shakerchi re-shoved for around 625,000 from the big blind.

"I'm outta here," Lavallee said, pitching his cards into the muck, and Sabini followed suit.

Pagano: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Shakerchi: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, these two hands chop 90.67% of the time, but Shakerchi found himself drawing dead after the flop came {5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. The turn and river came {9-Hearts}, {10-Spades} respectively, doubling Pagano to 1.063 million chips.

The defending champion was left with around 150,000, and the action folded to him in the small blind the next hand. He moved all in, Sorel Mizzi quickly called, and the cards went on their backs.

Shakerchi: {10-Spades}{3-Spades}
Mizzi: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

The Brit found no help on the flop ({k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}), the turn ({8-Diamonds}), or the river ({8-Clubs}), and was eliminated in ninth place.

Lavallee and Mizzi Play a Massive Cooler Hand

Jason Lavallee rockets into the chip lead
Jason Lavallee rockets into the chip lead

After a series of nominal pots, Sorel Mizzi and Jason Lavallee both found top three hands and played a nearly two million-chip pot.

The action folded to Mizzi, who raised to 48,000 on the button, and David "Devil Fish" Ulliott called in the small blind. Lavallee reached for chips, three-betting to 138,000, and Mizzi responded with a four-bet to 280,000. Ulliott sat back in his chair for 10 seconds before folding, and Lavallee announced that he was all in.

"Call," Mizzi said quickly.

Lavallee turned over {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}, prompting Mizzi to frown before showing his {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

The aces held up as the board came {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Spades}, and Lavallee doubled to 1.956 million chips. Mizzi plummeted to 260,000.

Mark Teltscher Eliminated in 8th Place (£44,775)

We've had seen shoves from both Mark Teltscher and Tamer Kamel after the break but it was the former who just got his second shove called. Teltscher moved all in for right around 600,000 chips and Jason Lavallee called quickly from the small blind.

"Sh*t, that's fast," Teltscher sighed, "You big?" he added, as Lavallee showed him the bad news.

Lavallee: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Teltscher: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Teltscher wished all the remaining players good luck before exiting the tournament area. Teltscher has been all class all day and he left the tournament area with his head held high.

Queen-High Call Pushes Lavallee's Stack to Three Million

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Jason Lavallee
Jason Lavallee

Jason Lavallee raised to 60,000 in middle position, and two players called - Carla Sabini on the button and Sorel Mizzi in the big blind. The dealer fanned {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Mizzi checked, and Lavallee examined Mizzi's stack before tossing out a continuation-bet of 78,000. Only Sabini called.

The turn brought a second three - the {3-Hearts} - and Lavallee checked. Sabini quickly pushed out a small stack of pumpkin T25,000 chips, making it 100,000 to go, and Lavallee called.

The {k-Spades} completed the board, Lavallee knuckled again, and Sabini immediately reached for chips. She fired out 160,000 (less than 30% of the pot), and Lavallee chuckled before calling. Sabini showed {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a busted gutshot draw, and her fellow countryman tabled {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a better queen-high.

Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano raised to 60,000 from early position and David Ulliott called from the cutoff. Jason Lavallee was seated on the button and he called as well after which both blinds folded.

The flop brought {9-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and Pagano moved all in right away for right around 500,000 chips. Ulliott folded immediately and Lavallee looked back down at his cards and called right away.

Lavallee: {J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Pagano: {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}, {A-Diamonds} and Pagano was knocked out.

"I keep losing these huge hands," Pagano sighed as he shook his head and wished the other players good luck. Lavallee is running away with it here as just six players remain

David Ulliot Eliminated in 6th Place (£82,315)

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Dave Ulliott
Dave Ulliott

In an unbelievable turn of events we just lost David 'Devil Fish" Ulliot in sixth place. It all started when Sorel Mizzi moved all in from the button for 555,000 chips. Ulliot tanked for a while and called from the small blind.

Jason Lavallee was next to act and he moved all in over the top within a second to put Ulliot in a very tough spot. Both Ulliot and Lavallee pushed forward 555,000 chips and the former looked down at his remaining 900,000 chips, as he was contemplating a call.

During Ulliot's decision making process Mizzi joked around with the players on the rail and Lavallee had a hard time not laughing, as he was in a position to potentially take out two players.

"Call," Ulliott ultimately announced while the three short stacks seemed to be in shock.

"Please don't have an ace, please don't have an ace," Mizzi said, as the cards were turned on their backs.

Ulliott: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Lavallee: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Nobody had an ace besides Mizzi who flopped extremely good when {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} appeared. The turn brought the {3-Spades} and the river the {6-Hearts} giving Mizzi a triple up and Lavallee the remainder of Ulliot's chips.

"If I win that hand I just walk away with the trophy," Lavallee sighed as was very close to being four-handed with almost all of the remaining chips.

"I would've just gone out to celebrate for a level and a half before coming back," Lavallee added with a smile as he will now have to deal with Mizzi's dangerous stack.

After chopping with {a-Spades}{8-Clubs} against the {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs} of Simon Higgins (the five community cards were {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}), Tamer Kamel moved all in for effectively 373,000 from the small blind.

"Call," Carla Sabini said immediately, showing {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

Kamel tabled {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, and the aces held as the board came {8-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}.
