£10,300 High Roller

Day 1 Started

Time For More High Roller Action!

Today at 12 p.m. local time, the £10,300 High Roller kicks off and it's looking to be another huge event! For players that had no, or mediocre, success in the Super High Roller or Main Event this is the perfect tournament to save their London trip, but the field they will have to beat is going to be extremely tough.

The previous High Roller event at the Barcelona EPT was won by Austrian Thomas Muehloecker while Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu finished second. In Barcelona a total of 180 players registered creating a prize pool of nearly €1.8 million. Muehloecker walked away with €390,700 and he is currently in second place on the EPT Player of the Year ranking.

Registration for this event will be open until the start of Day 2 and we are expecting a big turnout for this prestigious event. PokerNews will be with you all day to bring live updates, photos and videos of this closing event in London.

The Early Birds

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

As it is a custom during High Roller event the start is always a bit slow. We noticed a few players already playing but we're sure plenty more will show up as time goes on.

Dion Raises the Turn

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Canadian pro Yann Dion opened to 475 on the button, and Christoph Vogelsang defended his big blind. The dealer fanned {4-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, Vogelsang checked, and Dion continued for 625. His German opponent reached for chips.

"One-seven," he said, tossing forward two yellow T1,000 chips.

Dion called the extra 1,075, and the turn brought the suicide king ({k-Hearts}). Vogelsang led out for 2,900, Dion raised to 8,600, and the German tank-folded.

Today's Plan

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

The players in the High Roller event will play ten levels today and that means play will finish around midnight. There will be a one-hour dinner break after the sixth level and that will be around 6:40 PM.

Late registration for this event is open until the start of Day 2.

Pagano Active Early On

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano has played quite a lot of pots early on and we just saw him both win and lose one. During the first hand the board read {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Pagano bet 2,600 and both his opponents called.

On the river the {7-Clubs} hit and Pagano bet 5,500 after it was checked to him and one player called. Pagano showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and took down the pot.

Pagano raised the very next hand to 500 and one player called. The flop brought {A-Hearts}{3-Spades}{J-Spades} and Pagano's opponent check-called 800. The turn brought the {2-Spades} and this time Pagano fired 1,500, but he was called once more.

On the river, the {10-Spades}, the action went check-check and Pagano mucked when his opponent showed {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}.

Lu-Ca Pa-Gano

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

It's the Luca Pagano show here early on during the High Roller as the Italian Team PokerStars Pro is involved in almost every pot.

Max Greenwood just sat down and he was enjoying a tasty looking salad when he decided to raise up to 600. Pagano called from him immediate left and the button called as well. The player in the big blind gave it some thought and eventually called too.

The flop brought out {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and it was checked to Pagano who bet 1,200 and only the big blind made the call.

On the turn the {5-Diamonds} hit and both players checked. The river brought the {2-Spades} and the big blind bet 1,600 and Pagano just called. The big blind showed {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and mucked when Pagano turned over {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}.

A few hands later we saw a {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop on which it was checked to Pagano who bet 1,100 and one player called. The same player that Pagano won chips from in the previous hand raised to 3,200 and the Italian was the only one that committed the extra chips.

On the turn the {K-Clubs} hit and this time both players checked. On the river, the {A-Spades}, Pagano be 4,500 and his opponent folded.
