First Man Out; Top Two No Good for Andreev

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Just 20 minutes in and we already have the first elimination in the €10,300 High Roller. On a board of {8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Diamonds} Andrey Andreev and Alexander Ivarsson had already build a massive pot, and when the turn came {7-Hearts}, the Russian player shipped in his remaining 25,000.

Ivarsson hesitated for just a moment before committing his stack of 5,000 chips, but was ultimately way ahead, when the hands were turned up.

Alexander Ivarsson: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Andrey Andreev: {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Andreev was drawing live with jacks and eights, but the river {9-Hearts} completed the board and sent the early chiplead to Ivarsson. Andreev made use of the option for a single reentry, and are now back to starting stack.

Flush for Amirov

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Ilkin Amirov raised to 550 from the small blind and Alexander Ivarsson called in the big blind. On the {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop, Amirov bet 600 and Ivarsson called. After the {5-Spades} appeared on the turn, Amirov checked and Ivarsson bet 1,500, which Amirov called.

Both players slowed down and checked the {6-Spades} on the river. "Flush," announced Amirov and turned over the {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Ivarsson could all but smile and mucked his cards.

Hissou Hits the River

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

On a flop of {Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts} Nick Petrangelo checked his option to Sirzat Hissou, who opted for a bet of 3,775 into the 6,500 chips pot. Petrangelo called quickly, and action was the same on the {4-Spades} turn, but this time for 6,650.

River {A-Spades} prompted two checks, and Petrangelo got the bad news after rolling over his {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. They were no good against Hissou's {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}, and the German dragged the pot.

Good Start for Carrel; Kolonias Takes Some

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

"He is not speaking to me," Charlie Carrel said and referred to table neighbor and fellow Brit Ben Heath. "Do you want the hand history where I bet the river, he calls and I show the nuts and rub it in his face for five minutes?" Carrel joked further. The next hand had already started and Alexandros Kolonias raised, Alexander Zayonts called on the button as did Carrel in the small blind.

On the {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, Carrel checked and Kolonias bet 1,000, Zayonts and Carrel called. After the {2-Clubs} turn, Carrel checked again and Kolonias bet 3,000. Zayonts folded, but Carrel wanted to see another card and tossed in the chips. The {6-Spades} on the river completed the board and Carrel checked, Kolonias claimed the pot with a third barrel worth 7,000.

Is Newey Going Blind?

Paul Newey
Paul Newey

"I thought the queen was a heart. I might be going blind", Paul Newey just told the table after almost mucking the best hand at showdown.

On a board of {4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} Charalampos Tsivikos checked his option before Newey checked it back. Tsivikos revealed {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts} good for a busted straight and flush draw, and it wasn't until the dealer announced "eight high", that Newey realised he had the better hand with {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

Small Pots for Katchalov and van Hoof

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

The start of the High Roller hasn't gone well for Max Silver and he dropped some chips early on to Iliodoros Kamatakis and Eugene Katchalov. The latter two just got into a small pot with 2,000 in the middle, but the {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} turn and {4-Clubs} river brought no betting action. Katchalov was first to show in the small blind and flashed {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, Kamatakis mucked.

Then, Katchalov raised to 600 from the button the next hand and Jorryt van Hoof called. On the {7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop, the action went check, check. On the {10-Clubs} turn and {3-Diamonds} river, Katchalov checked behind each time and van Hoof showed the {K-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for trips fours to win the pot.

Broskij Takes from Chmielewski

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

With a pot of 4,000 already in the middle until the {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, Marcin Chmielewski checked in the big blind and table neighbor Michiel Broskij in under the gun bet 2,100. Chmielewski check-raised to 6,500 and Broskij called. After the {5-Hearts} river, the Pole checked again and this time Broskij bet 12,600.

Chmielewski stared at the board, then at his opponent and ultimately elected to fold.

A New Table Opens

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

To accommodate the growing field, a new table has opened up and the big blinds of each existing tables were moved. Among those was also Sebastian Veghinas, who had previously complained that it was too cold on his previous table only to be moved immediately.

The latest trio to join the action includes Simon Mattsson, Pierre Neuville and Stefan Jedlicka. The Austrian has been on fire this EPT Season already by taking down the Estrellas High Roller in Barcelona, the IPT High Roller here in Malta and Jedlicka also finished 3rd in another €2,200 Side Event the other day also.
