At 12.30 p.m. local time, the next High Roller of the 2018 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona festival will kick off and the mixed game aficionados are expected to jump into the action for Day 1 of the €10,300 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller. One year ago, under the umbrella of the PokerStars Championship, it was French poker pro Sylvain Loosli that cut a deal with Pedro Zagalo and claimed the trophy and payday of €236,400 in a field of 111 entries.
Among those to cash in this event back in 2017 were also such notables as Oliver Weis, Jan Suchanek, Yuri Martins Dzivielevski, Peter Eichhardt, Emil Patel and Laszlo Bujtas. Suchanek has already confirmed that he will take part in the event, while many other notables still have a stack for Day 2 of the record-breaking €5,300 Main Event.
Day 1 will play a total of 15 levels of 40 minutes each and the registration remains open for the first eight levels until approximately 6.30 p.m. local time. There will be a dinner break after the end of level 12 and Day 1 is expected to wrap up after midnight local time. During the registration period, a single re-entry is allowed.

With around 2,000 in the middle and the river showing , Alexander Petersen bet 1,000 once checked to him by Niko Soininen. The Finn gave it some thought and called, and Petersen joked "I have a straight" after rolling over for busted straight draws.

Dany Chidiac was eliminated only 15 minutes into the day and it was Ronald Keijzer that claimed the chips. According to Keijzer, he check-called the flop and hey got it in after the turn with Keijzer holding a straight and clubs nut flush draw, while Chidiac had two pair and an open-ender.
Over on table two, the action was also quite explosive. With around 5,000 in the middle and the flop showing , Mohamed Benih Benmetir bet 5,000 and Pim van Holsteyn raised the pot. Benmetir moved all in and van Holsteyn called.

Both had flopped the straight and Benmetir had the superior straight redraw, while van Holsteyn had the clubs flush draw. The turn and river run out changed nothing and they chopped it up.

Within quick succession, Jan Suchanek, Shyngis Satubayev and Martin Kozlov all took their seats. Kozlov and Satubayev ended up together on table three, while Suchanek is on table two along with Seamus Cahill.

Alexander Petersen had lost a massive pot to Johann Tarer early on and the two clashed again soon after. With 4,500 in the middle and the flop showing , Tarer checked and called a bet of 1,500 by Petersen to see the on the turn. Tarer checked again and Petersen bet 4,000, which the Frenchman called.
On the river, Tarer checked and Petersen moved all in for 5,100. After some consideration, Tarer called and was shown the for trips jacks by Petersen. Tarer mucked the and Petersen said "I got lucky there".
