Paulsen Bags Big on Day 1c at PokerStars Eureka Hamburg Main Event

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Julian Paulsen
Julian Paulsen

Day 1c of the PokerStars Eureka Hamburg Main Event has concluded here at Casino Schenefeld, with 46 players progressing from the 241 entrants. They join the 92 players who qualified in Days 1a and 1b, meaning 138 players will return for Day 2.

The event attracted a total of 615 entries, generating an impressive prize pool of €584,250. Details of payouts will follow at the start of Day 2.

Julian Paulsen of Germany was among the chip leaders for much of the day and ended up bagging the second-biggest stack (370,500), just behind fellow countryman Timo Scarcella who amassed 392,000 during the course of the day.

Malte Von Ostrowski completes an all-German top three on 122,000, while PokerStars Qualifier Philipp Ruthard (269,000) will have been delighted to bag a top-ten stack in his flight.

Scarcella boasts live recorded earnings totaling over $170,000, with his biggest cash thus far being a fifth-place finish in the PokerStars Eureka Cup at EPT Prague in 2022 for $43,000.

Paulsen does not appear to have any recorded tournament cashes, and will be looking to bag a big first entry on The Hendon Mob when he returns for Day 2. Von Ostrowski has live recorded cashes of less than $5,000 and would no doubt love to claim a first major title on home soil.

Fischer Doubles via Al Labani

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Hael Al Labani opened to 4,500 from middle position, and was faced with a three-bet to 13,000 by Piotr Zapolski on the button.
Eric Fischer in the small blind pondered the spot, and then cold four-bet jammed for 62,500. Al Labani then moved all in for around 100,000, forcing out Zapolski.

Eric Fischer: AA All in
Hael Al Labani: AK

Fischer had woken up with aces and Al Labani had ran straight into them with ace-king, the 3364J runout failing to provide him with an unlikely escape, sending Fischer a nice pot.

Julian Paulsen
Julian Paulsen

Nedeljko Todorovic opened to 2,500 under the gun and received calls from Florin Bilan in the next seat, and the button.

Julian Paulsen was in the small blind, and he three-bet to 20,000. Todorovic moved all-in for around 11,000, Bilan followed suit for around 10,000, and the button folded.

Florin Bilan: 98 All in
Nedeljko Todorovic: AJ All in
Julian Paulsen: 66

Paulsen's pocket sixes were ahead, and remained so after his opponents missed the board on the 4525Q runout, sending them both to the rail.

Bloch Doubles via Bumbu in Cooler

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Jan Bloch
Jan Bloch

There had clearly been some preflop action as 16,500 was in the middle in a hand between Jan Bloch in the small blind and Cristian Bumbu in middle position.

The board read J510, and Bloch led out with a bet of 8,500. After some thought, Bumbu jammed with the covering stack, for around 27,000. Bloch couldn't get his chips in quick enough.

Jan Bloch: KK All in
Cristian Bumbu: QQ

In a cooler, Bloch had the better overpair to the board, and although Bumbu was presented with extra outs by the A turn, the 2 river was a brick to send Bloch the double.

Alsoud Doubles with Aces

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Modar Alsoud
Modar Alsoud

Around 12,500 was in front of Atush Esker, who was faced with an all-in from Modar Alsoud for 31,000, which had sent Esker deep into the tank.

Eventually Alsoud asked for the clock to be called. With 20 seconds remaining, Esker got a coin out of his pocket, and said if it landed heads he'd call. Sure enough it did, and Esker was true to his word and called it off.

Modar Alsoud: AA All in
Atush Esker: J9

Alsoud was in great shape for a double-up with the rockets, and it was confirmed by the 86456 runout.

Cachinero Secures Triple Knockout

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Manuel Cachinero
Manuel Cachinero

PokerNews heard a dealer announce "Table 1 - seats 7, 8 and 9", meaning there had been a triple knockout. Philipp Ruthard at the table was kind enough to give us the details.

All the money had went in on the A84 flop, with a short-stack all-in pre for 1,000. Manuel Cachinero held A4 for two pair, while his opponents had a flush draw, ace-queen for a pair of aces, and the short-stack had ten-high.

The turn and river were bricks and Cachinero scooped a monster pot.

Alsoud Busts Mallon

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Modar Alsoud
Modar Alsoud

Atush Esker opened to 1,500 and received calls from Nils Mallon in the cutoff and Modar Alsoud on the button.

On the 1064 flop, Esker continued with a bet of 2,000, and both of his opponents called.

On the 8 turn, Esker checked, Mallon moved all in for around 12,000, Alsoud called, and Esker folded.

Nils Mallon: KQ All in
Modar Alsoud: 97

Mallon was in trouble versus Alsoud's turned straight, but he still had outs to the flush draw. The 3 river however was a brick and Mallon made for the exit, sending Alsoud a nice pot.

Atmaca Spikes River to Double via Axer

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Ercan Atmaca
Ercan Atmaca

Rene Kukenbrink opened to 1,200 and received a call from Wilhelm Axer on the button. Ercan Atmaca was in the small blind, and he three-bet jammed for 11,000.

Kukenbrink got out of the way but Axer called.

Ercan Atmaca: AQ All in
Wilhelm Axer: J10

Atmaca was ahead, but Axer went in front after the J107 flop gave him top two pair. Atmaca had a spade draw, and while the A turn did not alter matters, the 8 river gave him the queen-high flush and the double-up.
