Daniel Karacic Leads After Day 1a of the Eureka 6 Rozvadov Main Event

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Daniel Karacic

Season 6 of the PokerStars.net Eureka Poker Tour officially kicked off this week at King's Casino in Rozvadov and the €1,100 Main Event got underway earlier today. One year ago, the first starting day attracted a field of 98 entrants but this number was crushed as 219 players took part this time around. With that, the highlight event of the festival looks well on track to meet its guarantee of €500,000.

After 10 levels of 45 minutes each, only 90 players remained. Daniel Karacic from Croatia bagged up the lead with 194,400 in chips. He is followed by Harald "Harry" Casagrande (155,000) and Lazer Gjergji (151,800). Gjergji skyrocketed into third place overall by winning a big flip with ace-queen suited against the pocket eights of Jesper Hansen in one of the last hands of the day.

Among the main attractions in today's field were Ivan "Negriin" Luca, EPT Vienna champion Michael Eiler, and Alex Kravchenko. While Luca, the Argentinian, claimed 124,800 in chips and Eiler followed straight after with 117,600, Kravchenko busted in the last level of the night. Nandor Solyom was the first player out and Eureka 5 Hamburg champion Tom Holke departed early on from the very same table.

Defending Eureka Rozvadov champion Raphael Wimmer as well as 2015 World Series of Poker Europe bracelet winner Makarios Avramidis didn't advance to Day 2 either, and the set of deuces from Tobias Peters was cracked by a nut flush draw. Friedrich Raz made said flush to become a big stack in Level 6, but the Swiss bluffed off his stack to Karacic when firing three barrels with a turned flush draw.

Other big stacks and notables include 2015 World Series of Poker Circuit Rozvadov Main Event finalist Tonino Schmitz (113,800), Frantisek Bures (95,900), EPT regular Robert Zipf (82,400), who registered just before the start of Level 7, Eureka 5 Prague fourth-place finisher Vladas Burneikis (80,300), Stefan Rapp (79,200), Marek Blasko (70,000), and Sebastian Langrock (63,300).

They will all be back on Sunday for Day 2 while tomorrow offers the second starting day as of 1 p.m. and the turbo Day 1c heat as of 22:00 local time. Only players that busted in either of the first two flights are allowed to participate in Day 1c, and you can be sure to find coverage right here on PokerNews, so stay tuned.

Jesper Hansen

During the last four hands, Lazer Gjergji opened to 3,000 and Jesper Hansen three-bet to 6,500 from one seat over. The Czech moved all in for around 80,000 and Hansen called to create a big flip.

Hansen: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Gjergji: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Gjergji claimed the big pot with trips aces, Hansen was covered and busted just shy of making Day 2.

Karacic Busts Raz

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Friedrich Raz
Friedrich Raz

Friedrich Raz opened to 3,000 from the button and Daniel Karacic called from one seat over to see a flop of {A-}{Q-}{6-} with one spade. Karacic check-called a bet of 4,000 and did so again for 9,500 on the {7-Spades} turn. The {8-} river didn't complete any flush draw and Karacic checked for a third time.

Raz took the only option left and pushed all in, however his bluff with {J-Spades}{4-Spades} was caught eventually as Karacic tank-called with the {A-}{6-} for two pair to jump into the lead.

Wimmer and Avramidis no More

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Makarios Avramidis
Makarios Avramidis

Two players that won't be returning to their seats after the dinner break are defending Eureka Rozvadov champion Raphael Wimmer as well as 2015 World Series of Poker Europe bracelet winner Makarios Avramidis. The latter committed his stack with {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} on a heads-up flop against Felix Kaltner.

The flop was king high with two diamonds and Kaltner's ace-king held up despite an additional gutshot on the turn.

Peters Busts with Set

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Tobias Peters
Tobias Peters

After a rather innocent action to the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, the fireworks started with Friedrich Raz and Tobias Peters going at it. The former eventually ended up all in after a raising war for 29,375 and showed the {A-Spades}{7-Spades} for the nut flush draw. Peters held deuces for bottom set and saw his stack all but melt with the {J-Hearts} turn and {3-Spades} river.

One hand later, Thorsten Ostwald limped from under the gun and Peters shoved his last 3,000 chips. Ostwald called and it was a flip for the Dutchman:

Peters: {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Ostwald: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{2-Clubs} provided no help for Peters and he headed to the rail, but will most likely reenter on Day 1c.

Holke's Day is Over

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Tom Holke
Tom Holke

Tom Holke four-bet into an open-raise by Ali Sameeian and the Eureka Season 5 contender called with pocket tens. Holke checked behind on a jack-high flop and then bet the {6-} turn for 2,500 before firing 5,500 on a blank river. Sameeian tank-called and Holke showed just a king.

Soon after, Holke raised to 775 and was called by two opponents including Tutus Tuncay. The latter bet the {10-}{6-}{5-} flop and Holke shoved for 9,000 with {6-}{3-}, Tuncay's call came with {10-}{9-} for top pair and that held up.
