Lucky Sevens Give Ball Early Lead

Scott Ball just won the first big pot of the day. He opened from the cutoff with {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Jason Mercier called from the button holding {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Xuan Liu put in a three-bet from the small blind with {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and both Ball and Mercier called.

The {2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} flop gave Ball a set of sevens, while Liu made top pair. Liu continued for 2,746 and Ball was the only caller. Both players checked the {6-Spades} turn.

The river was the {5-Clubs} and Liu fired out a bet of 6,244. Ball wasn't impressed by that bet and went all-in for 20,227. Liu folded and Ball was the early chipleader.

Kaverman Was a Little Late

Sao Paulo Metropolitans' Byron Kaverman arrived a little late to the game. He sat out the first couple of hands, but didn't miss much. He only lost a couple hundred points, but just won a small pot to get back to the starting stack of 25,000.

Slow Start

We are 25 hands into this match and after the big hand between Scott Ball and Xuan Liu nothing much has happened.

Jason Mercier and Xuan Liu chopped a pot where they both made a straight.

Byron Kaverman just won a small hand with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} versus the {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} of Kitty Kuo. Kaverman fired on the {2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{J-Spades} flop and the {3-Hearts} turn and Kuo gave up.

Although this start is rather slow, the action will develop quickly, because of the 8-minute levels. Several players are getting short stacked now.

Ace on the River Helps Ho

Maria Ho opened from the cut off to 2,650 in the 600/1200-level with {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Both Byron Kaverman {7-Spades}{8-Spades} and Scott Ball {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} called from the blinds.

The {5-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} flop was checked through. The {2-Clubs} on the turn gave Ball two pair. He bet 5,125 and Ho was the only caller. The river brought the {A-Clubs} which gave Ho a higher two pair.

Both players checked and Ho raked in the pot. The LA Sunset player won another pot from Ball shortly after and took the chiplead.
