No Luck For Mercier, Busted in Second

Jason Mercier has just busted in second place in the first 6-max heat of the Americas conference.

He lost a huge pot when Maria Ho set a trap with {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. She limped in from the button and Mercier shoved with {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Ho called and was way ahead.

The {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}-board didn't help Mercier and he was left with 7,000 chips, less than two big blinds.

He managed to double up twice, before he went all-in with {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Ho called holding {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}.

Mercier did hit a five, but there was also an ace on the {5-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades}-flop. The {9-Hearts} turn didn't help Mercier and the {K-Diamonds} river couldn't save him either.

He got those last chips in with his {A-Diamonds}{2-Spades} against the {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} from Maria Ho.

Ho's ducks were good and they stayed good on the {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}-board.

Kuo Eliminated in Fifth Place

Kitty Kuo was crippled and than eliminated from this heat. She first lost with {A-}{Q-} versus the {A-}{K-} from Byron Kaverman and was left with 1,660 chips by 1k/2k blinds.

In the next hand she doubled with {A-Clubs}{9-Spades} against the {K-Spades}{10-Spades} from Scott Ball when the board ran out {8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. But she was eliminated in the next hand.

Kaverman raised with {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} from the under the gun position. Jason Mercier folded {Q-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Kuo made the call from the big blind holding {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

She needed help to stay alive but the {8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}-board didn't provide the help she was looking for.

Kuo scores one point for the San Francisco Rush.

Mercier Busts Liu in Sixth Place

Xuan Liu is the first one to be eliminated from this heat. Liu was left with 10,500 in chips and had to post the 1,600 big blind. The action was folded to Jason Mercier in the small blind and he put Liu all-in. The Montreal Nationals player made the call and she was at risk.

Jason Mercier: {9-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Xuan Liu: {Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Liu was ahead, but it was close and the {J-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop gave Mercier the better hand. The {8-Clubs} turn wasn't much of a help to Liu and neither was the {A-Spades} river.

Liu left the tournament without scoring any points for her team, but the Nationals will remain on the top of the table of the Americas League.

Ace on the River Helps Ho

Maria Ho opened from the cut off to 2,650 in the 600/1200-level with {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Both Byron Kaverman {7-Spades}{8-Spades} and Scott Ball {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} called from the blinds.

The {5-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} flop was checked through. The {2-Clubs} on the turn gave Ball two pair. He bet 5,125 and Ho was the only caller. The river brought the {A-Clubs} which gave Ho a higher two pair.

Both players checked and Ho raked in the pot. The LA Sunset player won another pot from Ball shortly after and took the chiplead.
