Kyle Cartwright called 1,800 from the player on his right on a board, and the player barreled out with 7,000 on the river. Cartwright leaned forward and muttered to himself for a minute or two before opting to call, and his opponent indicated Cartwright had the winner. The five-time ring winner showed and took the pot.
Barry Schultz holds a solid lead with 49 points on the leaderboard for this stop of the Hollywood Poker Open, while second-place Kenneth Ervin has 36. Despite the spot, he isn't resting on his laurels, trying to accumulate more in the main event.
In one recent pot, a player limped under the gun and another raised to 700 in the cutoff, and Schultz three-bet to 2,500 in the small blind. He got calls from both the big blind and the limper, and everyone checked the flop, leading to a turn. Schultz's 5,000 bet took it down at that point.
A player in the cutoff bet approximately 3,800 on a board, and Wilson Carnes pushed all in for 5,250 in the small blind. Kyle Cartwright folded, and the bettor called, showing for kings up. Unfortunately for him, Carnes picked up a straight with on the same card that two-paired him, and Carnes held as the hit the river.
Donald McArthur limped under the gun, and Johnny Landreth made it 900 and got a call from Steve Kendrick on the button. After the blinds mucked, McArthur came over the top with 3,300, folding out Landreth. Kendrick wanted to play though, and the two saw flop. Both players checked, and McArthur bet 3,000 on the turn. Kendrick called, and two more checks ensued on the river.
