Check It Down, Lyon Wins Small Pot

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Mel Lyon
Mel Lyon

Mel Lyon is approaching 30,000 and on this hand he picked up close to the minimum, as it appeared no one wanted to win the pot.

Mounir Koja started the hand by limping under the gun. Lyon called from the button and with both the blinds in, four players saw the {2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop. The players checked the board down through the river, adding {k-Hearts}{8-Clubs} to the board.

At that point players took turns tossing out their best chance at winning the pot as if they were playing the old card game war. Lyon tossed out the {8-Diamonds}, which was good for a pair and topped the ace high that was leading to that point. Then Lyon tossed the {6-Diamonds} to expose his whole hand and he took down the small pot.

A Big Flop: Borden Just Outflops Vera

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Phil Vera made it into the field and Paris Borden helped him find his way back out again.

Borden raised to 650 preflop and two players called, including Vera. The three players saw the {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Spades} flop and Borden led the way, betting 1,650. The next player called and Vera raised to 5,000. Borden and the other player called.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and Borden the action checked to Vera on the button. Vera bet 6,000 and Borden called. The other player folded and the two were heads up to the river.

The river was the {a-Clubs} and Borden went all in for his remaining 21,000. He had Vera covered and Vera went into the tank. He eventually called, saying that he needed to see it. What he saw was {j-Spades}{10-Spades}, which was good enough to give Borden the spade flush. Vera mucked his set of fives and headed to the rail.

Truman Doubles Through Moore

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Three players saw the {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop. Ken Moore kicked off the post-flop action by betting 4,000 and Mike Truman was the only caller.

On the turn, Moore bet 5,000 when the {4-Clubs} hit. Truman went all in for his remaining 14,775. Moore called and showed {q-}{q-}, but was behind the {8-Spades}{9-Clubs} of Truman.

Two Fraziers Enter, One Remains

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Susan and Jeff Frazier joined the tournament flight today and one has doubled their chip stack, while the other has been eliminated.

Susan Frazier is the one eliminated, after she got all in for her remaining 3,200 chips with {a-}{j-}. She got called by Michael Sassin who held {8-}{8-}. The board ran out {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Susan Frazier was eliminated.

At the next table, Jeff Frazier was involved in a three-handed pot. Ron Robey opened the action with a preflop raise to 600 and Frazier called along with one other player.

The flop was {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades} and the first player to act bet 1,100. Robey, the preflop raiser, folded and Frazier raised to 3,000. The original bettor called the raise and it was heads up to the turn.

The turn was the {8-Spades} and both players checked. The river was the {3-Diamonds} and the first player opened again, this time making it 3,000. Frazier raised again, to the tune of 10,000 which proved to be enough to take down the pot when his opponent mucked.
