Day 1b Started

Day 1b Starts Today, HPO Charles Town Title on the Line

Phil Vera Expected in Day 1b Field
Phil Vera Expected in Day 1b Field

Today is Day 1b of the HPO Charles Town Regional Main Event. Today's players will try and join the five players from Day 1a in their quest for an HPO title.

Chris Moneymaker set the mark in Day 1a with 371,800 after he ended the day with a flurry that played a big part in sending Peter Priest to the rail.

A total of 45 entries joined the Day 1a flight and today is expected to be closer to 80. Last night's players ended in the middle of level 13, instead of the scheduled 14 levels because the field was down to 12%.

Last night, after Phil Vera busted he said he would be back today. Vera played well but eventually busted to Mike Melkersen. Vera was left short when he got all in with aces against Dennis Summers. Summers had flopped a set of tens. Hopefully for Vera, he fairs better today and is able to book his ticket to Day 2.

Stay tuned to pokernews.com for updates throughout the day and see who will join the five other players in Day 2.

More Counts, Wilt Wins a Little One

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Trent Wilt fired on the turn and the river and took down a small pot against Brad Young and Jim Keating.

Keating opened the action when he raised to 250 from the hijack. Wilt called from the small blind and Young called from the big.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} and all three players checked. The turn was the {4-Spades} and Wilt led for 350. Young and Keating both called.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Wilt led again, this time making it 21,500. Young and Keating folded.

Mike Sites and Mike Fryett are also at the table here early in level one.

Springfield In Step

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Diana Springfield just eliminated a player. After five players saw a limped flop of {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, each of them checked to the turn.

When the {9-Clubs} hit the turn one player went all in for only about 2,000 more and Springfield reshoved over the top. She had turned a club flush with {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} against the pair of her opponent. The river couldn't save him and Springfield took down the pot.

Wilt Turns a Set

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Trent Wilt fired three times and got called three times by Brad Young. Young had flopped two pair but was no good.

The action started when Wilt and Young saw a flop three handed with Mike Fryett. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and the action checked to Wilt. Wilt bet 1,100 and Young was the only caller.

The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and Young checked again. Wilt bet 2,100 and Young called.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Young checked for a third time. This time Wilt bet 5,125 and Young quickly called. Young's two pair with {q-}{10-} was not good enough to win the pot after Wilt turned over {2-}{2-} for a turned set.
