Josh Lowing Leads Final 36 into Day 2 at Lawrenceburg HPO

Welcome to Day 2 of the HPO Lawrenceburg Main Event. With 81 entries on Saturday and 149 entries on Sunday, the Lawrenceburg regional stop to start Season 4 generated a prize pool of $229,000.

Josh Lowing comes into Day 2 as the chip leader, having accumulated a massive stack of 326,500 on Friday’s Day 1a. Lowing will have some tough competition as tour regular Jared Palmer took the Day 1b chip lead with active, but disciplined play during Saturday's second flight. Palmer is stacked at 306,500 and is followed closely by another tour regular, Nick Guagenti (257,500) and tournament force Keven Stammen (244,500). Stammen picked his battles late on Day 1b with another big stack and tablemate Michael Filippidis, who bagged a stout 293,500.

Joby Houck (103,500) is another notable who apparently could not get enough poker, as he entered and won Saturday's Event #29, where Lowing was also a final table participant, finishing in third. Houck headed for some pillow time fully confident that the win vaulted him into the early HPO regional leaderboard lead.

A total of 36 runners advanced and 27 of them will be paid for their efforts. The top prize is $54,956 in cash + a seat in June’s HPO $2,500 Championship Main Event at the M Resort in Las Vegas.

The chase for the title starts at 12:15 p.m. local time, so stay tuned as we will bring you live reporting down to the finish.

Michael Hahn Eliminated in 18th Place ($2,863)

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante
A Happy Michael Hahn on Day 1a
A Happy Michael Hahn on Day 1a

Michael Hahn was all in for just a couple of big blinds and Ken Ware and Ryan Parker were in for 20,000 each and checked it all the way down on a board that completed {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

Parker showed {5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, which was better than Ware's {a-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Hahn's {6-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

George Lusby Eliminated in 16th Place ($2,863)

Keven Stammen opened to 26,000 from the button and George Lusby moved all in from the small blind for around 60,000 total. Stammen made the call and rolled over {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. Lusby needed to find a match for his ace, tabling {q-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} however and Lusby was gone. Just like that, Stammen has chipped back up to a nice stack.

Chris Best Eliminated in 12th Place ($4,695)

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante

Chris Best

Chris Best and Blake Barnes got it all in preflop with fairly even stacks.

Barnes: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Best: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The flop of {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} kept it safe for Barnes, but the {8-Diamonds} turn gave Best flush outs. The river was the {8-Spades} though and Barnes busted Best in 12th place.

Shawn Bowen opened to 32,000 from the cutoff and Matt Hils moved all in from the small blind. Bowen snap-called and tabled {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Hils showed {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and got some help on the {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop, but the {10-Diamonds} turn and {4-Spades} river sealed it for Bowen and Hils was sent packing.

Josh Lowing opened to 45,000 from the button and Joby Houck reraised to 110,000 from the small blind. Lowing moved all in with enough to cover Houck. Houck thought for a moment and eventually made the call.

Lowing: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Houck: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and Houck's main event and impressive series came to an end.
