Childs Play

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Lee Childs Plays the Game Like a True Pro
Lee Childs Plays the Game Like a True Pro

After Lee Childs opened for the standard raise from the cutoff, Mark Castaldo three-bet holding the button, making it 25,000 to play.

Childs paused a beat before using both hands to heap four-bet forward, and the wager equated to 41,000 total. After asking for a count of the reraise, Castaldo elected to take a flop, and he flatted to see the {4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} fanned across the felt.

Without much hesitation, Childs announced himself all in for approximately 90,000 effective, and after tanking long and hard while talking himself through the hand, Castaldo asked a question we don't hear very often on the tournament floor:

"Will you fold if I show?," he asked Childs, obviously preparing to lay his holding down. "I think I'm losing here... I fold. Nice hand Lee."

With his father Bill standing by to sweat the action, Childs calmly dragged the pot his way without revealing his hand.

A Cavaliere Attitude

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Brian Cavaliere Just Forced Two Folds to Earn a Big Pot
Brian Cavaliere Just Forced Two Folds to Earn a Big Pot

With the pressure of the money bubble affecting every player at the final table, Joseph Stiers opened the action for a 9,000 raise, hoping to scoop up another uncontested pot of blinds and antes.

Jim Boyd had other ideas though, and he flatted the bet from late position. With the action on him in the big blind, Day 1 chip leader Brian Cavaliere opted to put his opponents to the test with a three-bet to 20,000. Both Stiers and Boyd came along for the ride, bringing a flop of {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} on board.

First to act, Cavaliere heaped a stack of 30,000 into the middle, continuing to represent the big hand his three-bet had alluded to. Stiers appeared to wince a bit at the bet, and commented about being in a "bad spot in the middle," with Boyd left to act. His cards were eventuallty slid toward the dealer, and Boyd did the same, sending a sizable pot to Cavaliere - a local boy who earned his Main Event seat through an earlier HPO Mega Satellite.

Cavaliere then flashed the {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} to the table, confirming that he was not messing around by trying to play the bubble bully.

Craig Sarner Clubbed Over the Head

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Craig Sarner - 9th Place
Craig Sarner - 9th Place

Craig Sarner's last hand of the day was especially brutal, considering he played 12 hours to win a Mega Satellite into the Main Event, and 12 more hours on yesterday's Day 1, only to fall excruciatingly short of making the money.

Sarner jammed his last 28,000 into the middle with {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, coming over the top of Mike Summers' 6,500 opening wager.

Priced into making the call, Summers reluctantly committed the calling chips with his {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, finding himself well behind Sarner's overpair.

Unfortunately the flop rolled out with three clubs on board, instantly leaving Sarner with no outs - and no chips.

He hit the rail in 9th place, two spots short of making the money.

Greg's Wish Unanswered

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Greg Wish - 10th Place
Greg Wish - 10th Place

Moments after the ten-handed final table was formed, Greg Wish open-jammed his last 39,000 (13 big blinds) holding the {A-}{J-}.

Unfortunately for Wish, Day 1 chip leader Brian Cavaliere woke up with {K-}{K-}, and despite having outs the board bricked out to send him home just short of the money.

We missed Robert Walker Jr.'s last hand during the flurry of recent bustouts (more on that coming shortly, so stay tuned), but he headed out of the tournament area for an 11th place finish.

The ten-handed final table was reached with Walker Jr.'s elimination.

Moser Mashes McCaffrey

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Paul McCaffrey - 12th Place
Paul McCaffrey - 12th Place

After dropping a few big pots in succession, Paul McCaffrey opted to make his stand with an open-shove from the button. His last 52,000 went into the middle holding the {6-Spades}{8-Spades}, but when Michaelann Moser woke up with {A-}{A-} in the small blind, she snapped the bet off.

Although McCaffrey caught a lifeline on the {6-}{k-}{3-} flop, he was unable to improve on the turn or river, sending him home just short of the final table with a 12th place finish.

Sarner Survives

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Craig Sarner
Craig Sarner

Craig Sarner got the last of his stack in with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and found himself up against the {a-}{6-} of Paul McCaffrey.

Despite being well out in front of McCaffrey's ragged ace, Sarner sweated the drop of each and ever board card, anticipating the arrival of that dreaded ace.

"There's always an ace out there..." said Sarner to himself, watching as the dealer produced a board of {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

Despite his ominous premonition, Sarner's ladies faded the deck's aces and he scored a crucial double up to keep himself in contention.

Child(s) Abuse

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Lee Childs Just Found Salvation With a Two-Out Miracle on Fourth Street
Lee Childs Just Found Salvation With a Two-Out Miracle on Fourth Street

We heard a rush of commotion coming from Table #41, and after rushing over to take a look we discovered a three-way all in developing.

James Peters open-jammed for his last 30,000 or so, and Lee Childs did the same for about 55,000.

That's when Timothy Little looked down to find the prettiest sight in poker: {A-Diamonds}{a-Spades} in the hole and players already all in and at risk.

Little snap-called off for his remaining stack, which was slightly less than Childs' at the time, and the three players showed down. Childs produced the {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for a solid pocket pair, while Peters could only muster the {K-Spades}{7-Spades} for a short-stack plunge. Little was well ahead with his pocket rockets, and if the board came clean he would notch a huge triple up.

The flop rolled out {5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to keep Little in the lead, and he was now fading the only two jacks in the deck (along with a miracle runner-runner spike for Peter's king-high hand). Childs called for the jack of diamonds, knowing exactly how much of a longshot his prayer really was.

Turn: {j-Diamonds}

Just like that, a savior rained down from the heavens to give Childs a full house, and when the river failed to produce a third ace, the massive 155,000 pot was shipped his way.
