Sanchez Surges to the Top as Eleven Advance From Day 1b of the HPT Ameristar Vicksburg $1,100 Main Event

Sley Sanchez

Day 1b of the HPT Ameristar Vicksburg $1,100 Main Event saw 90 entrants battle it out to attempt and advance to Day 2 along with the ten players that made it through on Day 1a. After fifteen levels of play, Sley Sanchez managed to bag up 652,000, almost 300k more than his closest competitor, to take the overall chip lead into Day 2.

Sanchez started building a stack early in the day, as he managed to double up his 30,000 starting stack in the first few levels. Sanchez then dropped down to under starting stack just before registration closed, but a double KO in Level 10 helped propel him back up the counts. Sanchez then went on a tear through the final few levels, closing out his night by taking the last of David Lee's chips to seal up his chip-leading stack.

Hannah Guthrie (380,000) and Yousef Saleh (315,000) were the only other players to crest 300k, while Jason Riesenberg (296,000) and CT Hoffecker (256,000) round out the top five. The rest of the advancing field includes Kip Jones (227,000), Corey Harrison (198,000), Jaron Bailey (116,000), Shomari Williams (115,000), Morgan McBrayer (74,000) and Nolan Burton (72,000).

Phil Gilreath and John Cressend fought valiantly through the day, but were knocked out in the final seven hands of the evening to leave us with eleven players returning from the Day 1b flight. Others unfortunate enough to fail to advance to Day 2 include Dustin Stewart, Marco Moran, David Brooks, Arthur Holloway, Gavin Munroe, Jared Ingles, Rebecca Campbell, Harinder Chawla, Larry White, Tara Snow and Henry Friedler.

The remaining 21 players will return at Noon on Sunday, August 11th, to play down to the televised Final Table of nine. Action will start at Level 16 (2,000/5,000/5,000) and levels will continue to be forty minutes in length. The final eighteen players will make the money, with the following payouts:

Hart, Stewart Ousted By Harrison

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Jonathan Hart
Jonathan Hart

Dustin Stewart jammed for 47,500 from middle position, and Jonathan Hart three-bet shoved for 72,000 next to act. Corey Harrison four-bet shoved for 78,000 from the cutoff, and the rest of the field folded.

Dustin Stewart: {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Jonathan Hart: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Corey Harrison: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Hart held on the {2-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, but Harrison spiked a jack on the {j-Spades} turn to leave Stewart dead and Hart looking for a king to survive. The {2-Diamonds} river bricked off, and Harrison scored a double knockout just before the end of play.

At the same time Sley Sanchez took the last of David Lee's chips at the other table.

Moran Can't Win a Flip

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Marco Moran
Marco Moran

Jason Riesenberg three-bet shoved from the big blind for 75,000 after Marco Moran raised on the button. Moran, who had 66,000 to start the hand, quickly called.

Marco Moran: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Jason Riesenberg: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

"It's a race!" Moran said.

Moran ended up losing the race after a {2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{j-Hearts} board failed to improve his Big Slick, and he hit the rail.

David Brooks
David Brooks

Kip Jones raised to 7,000 from the hijack, and David Brooks three-bet shoved for 33,500 in the cutoff. CT Hoffecker called on the button, and everyone else folded.

David Brooks: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
CT Hoffecker: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Brooks stood up before the {6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop could fall, and Hoffecker ended up with a full house after the {6-Hearts} turn and {j-Spades} river, eliminating Brooks.

Lee Gets "One Timed" By Stanford

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
David Lee
David Lee

William Stanford ripped his last 38,500 in from the hijack, and David Lee three-bet shoved for 100,000 in the small blind, chasing out Hannah Guthrie in the big blind.

William Stanford: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
David Lee: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

"Ace ball one time!" Stanford said.

His wish was granted when the {9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop delivered him an ace, and he doubled up after the {10-Diamonds} turn and {5-Hearts} river failed to provide a queen to Lee.

Moon Falls To Bailey

Andy Moon
Andy Moon

William Stanford raised to 6,500 from middle position, and Andy Moon three-bet shoved for 30,000 in the cutoff. Jaron Bailey called in the small blind, and Stanford got out of the way.

Andy Moon: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Jaron Bailey: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Moon nodded upon seeing he was behind, and although he flopped a double-gutter on the {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop, he improved no further on the {5-Spades} turn or {7-Diamonds} river to bust.

Lance Cone
Lance Cone

Hannah Guthrie raised to 3,400 from middle position, and Lance Cone three-bet to 11,400 from the cutoff. Guthrie called.

Both players checked through the {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop, and Guthrie bet 12,000 on the {q-Hearts} turn. Cone tanked for a minute before making the call.

Both players checked the {2-Spades} river, and Guthrie tabled {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for a counterfeited pair. Cone turned up his {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and drug in the pot.

Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Alton Peterson: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Peterson got a small sweat when the {q-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop gave his opponent two outs, and the {4-Hearts} turn opened up chop outs for his foe. The {8-Spades} river bricked off, and Peterson eliminated his opponent.

Monaghan Waits For the Flop

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Michael Monaghan
Michael Monaghan

Michael Monaghan raised to 10,300 from under the gun, leaving himself just 1,300 behind. A player in middle position called, and everyone else folded.

"I wanna see the flop first," Monaghan told his opponent.

The last 1,300 of Monaghan's chips went in after the {10-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} flop fell, and his opponent said, "That's a bad flop for me," then called.

Michael Monaghan: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Opponent: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Monaghan got a scare when the {3-Clubs} turn gave his opponent a flush draw, but he faded the {6-Spades} river to earn the double.

Holloway Flushes Away Trips

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Arthur Holloway
Arthur Holloway

Dustin Stewart raised to 1,100 from under the gun, and was called by the cutoff. Arthur Holloway, who like Sam Cittadino yesterday, won his seat to this event via a cash game promotion at Hollywood Gulf Coast Casino, came along in the small blind, and the big blind made the call as well.

Action checked through the {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, and Holloway bet 5,000 on the {5-Clubs} turn. The big blind was the only caller.

Holloway tossed in another 5k chip on the {a-Hearts} river, and his opponent called. Holloway rolled over {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a rivered nut flush, and his opponent shook his head and showed {9-Hearts}{8-Spades} before mucking.
