Yousef Saleh Leads, BJ McBrayer Looking to Go Back-To-Back at HPT Ameristar Vicksburg as Nine Advance to Final Day

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

A whirlwind Day 2 here at the HPT Ameristar Vicksburg $1,100 Main Event saw a starting field of twenty-one players, from the original 146 entrants that began the tournament, zip down to the final table of nine in just under three hours time.

Yousef Saleh will return for Monday's Day 3 as the chip leader, bagging up 1.02 million. Saleh, who started the day fifth in chips, began by busting inaugural HPT Ameristar Vicksburg champ Jay Bishop in a flip.

However, the pot that helped catapult him to the top of the counts came when he flopped a jack-high flush on Jimbo Hughes, who had flopped an eight-high flush of his own. Hughes couldn't escape, and Saleh took over as chip leader from that point all the way through the end of the day.

Second in chips is Jaron Bailey (806,000), who managed to hit quads twice in a three-hour period to help propel him up the counts in a hurry. Start-of-Day 2 chip leader Sley Sanchez (604,000) held steady throughout to secure third-place going into the final table.

Joining them there are CT Hoffecker (546,000), Kip Jones (322,000), Shomari Williams (309,000), Judge Leo Boothe (281,000), and JW Carter (255,000), while defending champ BJ McBrayer (234,000) also managed to make it to the final day, but he'll have his work cut out for him as he sits on the short stack.

Three players were unfortunate enough to walk away short of a cash after making it to Day 2 - Chad Chisolm, Joseph Imarata, and bubble boy Doug Segers were the trio to leave without a payday. Once the bubble burst, a flurry of eliminations followed including Sam Ho (10th - $3,280), Nolan Burton (11th - $3,280), Wyatt Boothe (12th - $3,280), Hannah Guthrie (13th - $2,579), Jimbo Hughes (14th - $2,579), Morgan McBrayer (15th - $2,597), Jason Riesenberg (16th - $2,187), Corey Harrison (17th - $2,187), and Jay Bishop (18th - $2,187).

Play will resume Monday at Noon local time with 28:00 remaining in Level 19 (5,000/10,000/10,000) and the final table will be live-streamed and televised.

Come back to PokerNews for live updates and be sure to visit HPT’s Twitch channel to watch all the action unfold in real-time as a champion is crowned and presented with the HPT trophy along with a first-place prize of $36,895 and a $3,500 Championship package.

Sam Ho Eliminated in 10th Place ($3,280)

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Sam Ho
Sam Ho

Jaron Bailey raised to 23,000 from middle position, and Sam Ho three-bet shoved for 101,000 in the small blind. Bailey called.

Sam Ho: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Jaron Bailey: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Bailey's ace-high held on the {6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, and after the {8-Hearts} turn, Ho needed a king or queen to avoid bubbling the televised Final Table. The {a-Clubs} instead improved Bailey to aces-up, and Ho exits in tenth.

Stay tuned for a full recap of the day's action, including the final table seat draw and chip counts.

Defending Champ McBrayer Doubles Through Sanchez

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
BJ McBrayer
BJ McBrayer

Sley Sanchez raised to 18,000 from middle position, and Shomari Williams called on the button. BJ McBrayer three-bet shoved for 100,000 in the small blind, and Sanchez four-bet jammed to put Williams at risk for his last 220,000. Williams folded.

BJ McBrayer: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Sley Sanchez: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

Sanchez held on the {5-Spades}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop, but McBrayer found the {j-Hearts} on the turn to jump in the lead.

"Yeah, baby!" BJ's wife Morgan said after the {2-Spades} bricked off on the river to secure the double up for McBrayer.

Nolan Burton Eliminated in 11th Place ($3,280)

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nolan Burton
Nolan Burton

For the fourth consecutive hand, a player has been eliminated here at HPT Ameristar Vicksburg, sending us to our preliminary final table of ten in quick succession.

Nolan Burton three-bet shoved last 115,000 in chips in preflop from the small blind, and found himself in a pickle once original raiser Yousef Saleh made the call on the button.

Nolan Burton: {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Yousef Saleh: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Saleh flopped the nut flush draw to go with his aces on the {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop, and although he turned said flush with the {4-Diamonds}, Burton still had four outs to survive, as he turned two pair. The {q-Clubs} river bricked off, and the final ten players are now at one table. Stay tuned for a seat draw, as well as updated chip counts.

Before the dust could settle from the previous two eliminations, Wyatt Boothe was seen heading to the rail, and kindly shared the details of his final hand.

Just as Jimbo Hughes was eliminated, Hannah Guthrie hit the rail, as she had jammed her last 100,000 chips with the nut flush draw on the turn, and Kip Jones looked her up with a pair of fours. Guthrie failed to improve and joined the quickly growing line at the payout desk, as the action continues in a flurry here in Vicksburg.

Jimbo Hughes
Jimbo Hughes

Jimbo Hughes raised to 16,000 from the cutoff, and was called by Yousef Saleh in the small blind and Nolan Burton in the big blind.

Action checked to Hughes on a {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop, and he bet 45,000. Saleh check-raised to 420,000, enough to commit both of his opponents. Burton quickly folded, and Hughes instantly called for his last 140,000.

Jimbo Hughes: {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Yousef Saleh: {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The table gasped as Hughes realized he had been coolered, and he couldn't hit a miracle straight flush with the {9-Spades} turn and {j-Spades} river to hit the rail.

Morgan McBrayer

Two hands after losing a 400k flip with her {a-}{q-} failing to improve against the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} of Nolan Burton on a {9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} board, Morgan McBrayer had her last 20,000 at risk from the big blind against Yousef Saleh, who had opened to 21,000 from early position.

Morgan McBrayer: {10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Yousef Saleh: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

Saleh paired up on the {9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} flop, and McBrayer couldn't hit a ten on the {6-Clubs} turn or {8-Diamonds} river to end her run.

A few hands after a sick cooler in which Jaron Bailey turned quads with {8-}{8-} and Jason Riesenberg rivered top boat with {9-}{9-}, Riesenberg was left with just 50,000. He jammed those chips in preflop and got a call from Judge Leo Boothe.

Jason Riesenberg: {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Judge Leo Boothe: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

Riesenberg was out of his seat before the {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs} fell, and he quickly made his way to the payout desk after the {j-Hearts} turn and {8-Spades} river.

Corey Harrison: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Yousef Saleh: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
