Spenser Cramer Wins HPT Hollywood Casino Columbus for $191,723

The Heartland Poker Tour’s first-ever stop at Hollywood Casino Columbus drew a bigger-then-expected field of 588 entries. On Monday, the final nine players returned to battle it out in what will be Ohio’s first nationally-televised final table.

After three long days of play, Spenser Cramer came out on top of a stacked final table to capture a $191,723 first-place prize. Prior to the win, Cramer had less than $6,000 in lifetime tournament cashes, which makes sense given he prefers to spend his time playing pot-limit Omaha cash games.

“I was not a very good tournament player before this tournament,” Cramer said. “It’s been a long weekend but it’s been a great weekend. It’s great to finally win a big one. The final table was great. That was the most stacked table I’ve ever seen before. Every player at that table was a great player, I have a lot of respect for all of them.”

As for the big payday, the 25-year-old poker pro has some plans: “I have a newborn to take care of and a trip to Vegas this summer."

Cramer’s win was made all the more special given the competition he had to defeat, which included two World Series of Poker bracelet winners, a World Poker Tour champion, and a former MSPT winner.

Final Table Action

World Series of Poker bracelet winner Joey Couden was the first final table casualty after calling off on the river with the nut straight only to see Ryan Wince roll over jacks full of nines. Couden’s friend and fellow bracelet winner Adam Friedman followed him out the door after losing a flip with jacks to Mandeep Sah’s Big Slick for most of his stack.

World Poker Tour champ Kevin “1$ickDisea$s” Eyster fell when his king-queen failed to get there against Mah’s ace-eight all in preflop, and then start-of-the-day chip leader and 2018 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open champ Abdul Amer busted shortly after his ace-king was overcome by Jeff Hart’s ace-nine all in preflop, and Thila Narayanan took his leave when his ace-queen succumbed to Cramer’s ace-ten when a ten spike on the flop.

Hart ran jacks into Cramer’s pocket aces to bust in fourth place, and Sah was Cramer’s next victim after jamming with ace-three and failing to get there against two black nines.

Cramer began heads-up play with a little less than a 2:1 chip lead over Ryan Wice. In the final hand of the tournament, Wice three-bet jammed with eight-nine suited only to see Cramer call with aces, which held.

Season XV of the HPT will continue with a $1,650 buy-in Main Event at Ameristar East Chicago May 9-14. PokerNews will be on hand to offer live updates from that event. Click here for a look at the full schedule.

Ryan Wince Eliminated in 2nd Place (118,434)

Level 31 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Ryan Wince
Ryan Wince

On the button Spenser Cramer picked up some good news as he looked down at the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. Ryan Wince in the big blind raised his short stack all in with the {9-Spades}{8-Spades}.

Cramer immediately called and turned over his hand, almost tasting the title. But the flop provided some hope for Wince when it came {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} giving him a pair and a straight draw.

The turn was a blank {2-Spades} for Wince and the river was no help either when it came the {3-Clubs} to finish Wince's tournament as runner-up.

Wince will take home an amazing $118,434.

The board ran out {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades}{q-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Cramer's pocket nines held up to eliminate Sah in third place.

Spenser Cramer looked down at the {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} on the button and raised it up to 300,000. Jeff Hart had the {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} and decided to three-bet to 900,000.

Cramer four-bet all in and Hart called to put his Main Event life at stake as a big underdog.

The aces held for Cramer as the board would not provide any saving grace for Hart when it came {k-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

Hart walked away in fourth place.

Thilia Narayanan moved all in for 1M chips under the gun and it folded around to Spenser Cramer, who made the call in the big blind.

Narayanan: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Cramer: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Cramer's tens were enough to eliminate Narayanan in fifth place.

Ryan Wince limped UTG with the {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Mandeep Sah and Thila Narayanan both called. Abdul Amer put his remaining short stack of 100,000 in the middle with the {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. Jeff Hart came along as well.

The flop was {7-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{a-Spades} to hit Abdul's seven giving him a chance to quintuple up. The rest of the players in the hand checked around to the turn which was the {5-Clubs} to give Wince a full boat.

Wince bet 250,000 which folded out the three other players in the hand. Amer saw the bad news as Wince turned over his full house. The river was the {3-Diamonds} to confirm Amer's elimination in 6th place.

Kevin Eyster moved all in for 1.1 million from the hijack with {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}. It folded around to Mandeep Sah in the big blind who looked down at {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. He paused a moment to consider and made the call.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} to pair Sah's ace, but gave Eyster a broadway draw.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} leaving Eyster with one last chance to hit a ten to keep his HPT Columbus Main Event alive. But it came the {k-Spades} to end Eyster's tournament in 7th place.

Adam Friedman was down to only two big blinds and went all in for his remaining 220,000. It folded around to Ryan Wince who made the call from the big blind.

Friedman: {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Wince: {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop gave Wince a straight and the {5-Clubs} turn left Friedman drawing dead. The meaningless {7-Spades} was run out on the river and Wince eliminated Friedman in eighth place.

Joey Couden Eliminated in 9th Place ($17,041)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Joey Couden
Joey Couden

Ryan Wince raised to 125,000 from early position with the {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and he picked up a caller in the form of Joey Couden, who called from the big blind with the {q-Spades}{10-Spades}.

The flop was a juicy one as it came {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Spades} to give Wince a set of jacks and Couden a straight draw. Couden bet 125,000 and was called by Wince.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} to bring the straight home for Couden. He checked over to Wince who elected to check back.

The river turned the tables as it came the {9-Clubs} to give Wince the full boat. Couden bet 285,000 over to Wince who paused a moment before shoving for 2.6 million, which was enough to but Couden all in.

Couden took his time to make the decision, clearly torn on what to do. After a couple of minutes he made the call and saw the bad news when Wince flipped over the full house to beat his straight.

Couden threw his cards on the table and got up to shake the hands of his tablemates as his run in the HPT Columbus Main Event was over in 9th place for $17,041.

The Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Hollywood Casino Columbus began with 588 entries, but today just nine return to battle it out for the title and $191,723 first-place prize.

Others returning to action are World Series of Poker bracelet winners Adam Friedman and Joey Couden and World Poker Tour champ Kevin “1$sickDisea$E” Eyster. Interestingly, Amer is friends with Friedman, who finished third in the aforementioned MSPT Cleveland.
