Guagenti Wins Massive Pot

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante

A large hand involving two large stacks was unfolding as the board read {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Hae Yim had put in a bet and was raised to 19,000 by Nick Guagenti. Yim called to go to the river.

The river was the {6-Clubs}. Guagenti pushed all in for his remaining 64,000. Yim thought for a moment before throwing in the one chip call. Guagenti turned over {10-Hearts}{9-Spades} for the straight and Yim mucked his cards to give Guagenti the large pot.

Get to Know Reigning HPT Player of the Year Aaron Johnson

Aaron Johnson with Jeremy Smith

One of the best stories of 2018 was the incredible year of Minnesota’s Aaron Johnson. Back in May, PokerNews spoke with Johnson about leading the Player of the Year races on both Season 9 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) and Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Season XIV.

Over the next seven months, Johnson maintained his lead on the MSPT, and while he lost the HPT lead for a bit, he ultimately ended with it thanks to a deep run in the season finale. That allowed Johnson to become the first player to ever win POY titles on two different tours in the same year.

For doing so, Johnson won a $10,000 prize package for each tour.

“It feels amazing,” Johnson told PokerNews. “Coming into the year I certainly wanted to make a run at MSPT POY (which has always been a goal of mine), but I never imagined that I’d be in contention for multiple POY titles. To actually achieve it is unreal.”

Unfortunately, Johnson isn't here at the HPT Columbus today.

Asbury Still Alive

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The board was dealt showing {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Adam Asbury went all in for his remaining 12k with 22k in the pot already.

The player on the button tanked and the floor was called giving him 30 seconds to act. He then made the call for the 12k and Asbury showed him the {10-}{4-Diamonds} for a full house. The button mucked and Asbury was pushed the pot.
