Timothy Burden Talks His Way to the Chip Lead on Day 1b

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Timothy Burden
Timothy Burden

The second flight of the Heartland Poker Tour $1,100 Main Event has concluded after another 12 hours of hard-fought poker. After the full 15 levels were played out, Timothy Burden accumulated 417,000 chips, enough for the chip lead on Day 1b.

Burden went on a late run in the last three levels of the night on the heels of flopping a full house. Burden managed to get paid on all three streets and surged to the top of the leaderboard in the final few hands. The Kentucky native brings a special vibe to the table and often the number of words coming out of his mouth goes hand-in-hand with the number of chips he's stacking.

Burden has over $215,000 in career earnings with the majority of his cashes coming on the HPT. He already has one HPT Main Event final table this year in St. Louis and will be looking to reach another one this weekend.

Some other big stacks moving on to Day 2 include Justin Webb (360,000), Hae Yim (343,000), and Angela Shade (314,000) who could barely keep her eyes open for the last few hands of the night. Shade was fortunate enough to spin up a stack from around 30,000 to over 300,000 after the last break of the night.

There was expected to be a larger turnout today as the weekend approached and the day started out strong with 45 players taking their seat when the action got underway. That number continued to grow at a rapid pace as players filtered their way into the ballroom of the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. By the time late registration drew to a close, there were a total of 172 entries, bringing the running total to 262 thus far.

The tournament directors couldn't be happier with the guarantee being reached and the largest flight still yet to come. By the time the players reach the money on Day 2, they could be playing for nearly a total prizepool of around $500,000.

A lot of the big names fell by the wayside throughout the day including Greg Raymer who took a seat on the sidelines before the first break for the second day in a row. Joining him was Jake Bazeley, Craig Casino, Brad Sailor, and the Pupillo brothers (Nick and James). They will have one final chance to find a bag for Day 2 when the final flight kicks off Saturday at 12pm.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow to bring you all of the live updates from the tournament floor.

Radcliffe Finds Himself on the Right Side of a Cooler

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Matthew Radcliffe
Matthew Radcliffe

In a four-way limped pot with 10,000 in the middle, the flop of {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} was spread across the board. The action checked to the cutoff who bet 6,000 and Daniel Durbin check-raised to 12,000 from the small blind. Matthew Radcliffe shoved his stack of chips into the middle and the cutoff called off the last of his 55,000 chips. Durbin quickly mucked and the two remaining hands were tabled.

Matthew Radcliffe: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}

Radcliffe had his opponent drawing to just two outs and the {k-Clubs} on the turn nor the {4-Diamonds} on the river was one of them. Radcliffe raked in a healthy pot and sent his opponent to the rail.

Two Big Stacks Collide

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Hae Yim
Hae Yim

The action folded around to Hae Yim on the button who bumped it up to 2,500. Dustin Foster defended from the big blind and the flop came {j-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Foster started with a check and Yim tossed in a bet of 3,000. Foster check-raised to 10,000 only to have Yim three-bet to 23,000.

Foster called and the {9-Clubs} paired the board on the turn. Foster checked again and Yim stood up as he shoved his stack of 75,200 into the middle. Foster leaned back in his chair knowing this would take some time to come to a decision in what could be the largest pot of the day thus far. After about three minutes, with Yim standing the entire time, Foster finally let his hand go and Yim collected the pot.

Foster Reels in a Large Pot with Hooks

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Dustin Foster
Dustin Foster

There was a large pot brewing between Dustin Foster and Ian Richardson in the far corner of the room. With around 37,000 already in the middle and the board reading {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, Foster dropped in a stack of T5,000 chips. Richardson was faced with a decision for his remaining 17,200 chips and eventually made the call.

Dustin Foster: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Ian Richardson: {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Foster held a commanding lead but Richardson still had four outs in the deck to stay alive. As Foster dumped his head into his arms, the {3-Clubs} completed the board and Foster raked in a huge pot.

Double Knockout for Szczur

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Joshua Szczur
Joshua Szczur

After a series of preflop raises, Joshua Szczur got all of his chips in the middle against two of the shorter stacks on his table. Robert Reed was all in for 5,900 while Bob Koch was all in for 13,100 with Szczur having both players covered.

Joshua Szczur: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Bob Koch: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Robert Reed: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades} which failed to connect with either of Szczur's opponents. He scooped both the main and side pot to eliminate Koch and Reed before the first break of the day.

Stacks Get in on the First Level

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Lucas Wilson
Lucas Wilson

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, there was a bet from William Horsman in the blinds and a raise from Lucas Wilson in the cutoff. Horsman stuck in a three-bet to 4,700 and Wilson four-bet to 12,800. Horsman moved all in for around 28,000 and Wilson snapped him off.

Wilson turned over {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a straight with a flush redraw. Horsman was looking for the board to pair with his {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}, although the {2-Diamonds} was not a card he wanted. The river brought the {10-Diamonds} and after the stacks were counted, Horsman headed to the rail in the opening level.

HPT Lawrenceburg Main Event Resumes at 2pm with Day 1b

HPT Lawrenceburg
HPT Lawrenceburg

The first of three starting flights in the Heartland Poker Tour $1,100 Main Event at Casino Hollywood Lawrenceburg took place yesterday and wrapped up with 13 out of 90 players moving on to Day 2. Today, many players will return to the ballroom inside the casino, along with some new entries looking for their shot at the $250,000 guaranteed prizepool.

Reaching the guarantee should be no issue at all, and could happen by the end of the second flight today. After three satellites took place yesterday, there will be three more on the schedule for today as well. As the weekend approaches, the action should heat up and the tournament staff is expecting some big numbers for its first time on the eastern border of Indiana.

Just like the opening flight, everyone will take to the felt with a starting stack of 30,000 chips. The action will get underway at 2pm EST with the blinds starting at 100/100. The blind levels will be 40 minutes in length with a 15-minute break after every three levels and a big blind ante being introduced at the start of level four.

Players are given the option of unlimited re-entries throughout the registration period. Late registration will remain open until after the dinner break, which takes place after level nine. Should a player happen to bag chips on multiple starting flights, only their biggest stack will be brought forward to Day 2. There will be 15 levels on tap for today unless the 13% threshold is reached first.

Some familiar names to keep an eye out for that failed to bag on Day 1a include Adam Friedman, Jake Bazeley, Greg Raymer, along with many local favorites.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the entire Main Event.
