Welcome to Day 3 of 2019 HPT The Meadows

Andy Spears
Andy Spears

It started with 345 players and it comes down to these nine. The official final table is set and ready to rock for the Heartland Poker Tour The Meadows $1,100 Main Event.

Everyone's looking up in the chip counts at Dan Wagner, the only one over 100 big blinds with just a hair north of 2.5 million as play returns with just a few minutes remaining at 12,000/24,000/24,000. Wagner has plenty of experience with several wins and big cashes on his ledger, so he'll be a tough man to take down with his lead.

Wagner's followed in the counts by Anthony McIe at just under 2 million and nobody else is particularly close to the pair.

However, one massive obstacle a little lower in the counts is Andy Spears. The tournament vet has more than $1.3 million in cashes and owes his middling stack only to a rough beat where he had an opponent coolered with ace-king over ace-queen blind versus blind only for a queen to arrive on the river. If his luck turns around, he'll certainly be the favorite.

The competition begins here at The Meadows at noon local time, with a live stream following on a 30-minute delay. They'll play 40-minute levels until a winner claims the $76,165. You can follow the updates to see who emerges here on PokerNews, and here's a link to HPT's stream.

George Stathers opened with {a-Spades}{k-Spades} in the cutoff, Anthony McIe shoved on his left with {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Stathers called it off for 783,000.

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Stathers was first to hit the rail at the final table.

Kelly Becker
Kelly Becker

Kelly Becker raised to 80,000 from middle position with {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and Jason Pickup reraised all in from the big blind with {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. After some thought, Becker opted to call off her last 275,000 and they went to showdown.

The {3-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop helped Becker not at all, and the {2-Spades} left her in need of a seven and a seven only. The {10-Hearts} river wasn't it and she headed for payouts.

Christopher Lee limped in with {q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Lydia Waltonbaugh checked {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

Lee bet 100,000 on the {5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop and Waltonbaugh called. On the {4-Clubs} turn, Lee bet 200,000 and called off his last 350,000 when Waltonbaugh jammed. Without an out in the deck, Lee just stood up and began to head out as the dealer finished out the board with a meaningless {2-Diamonds}.

Action folded to Marcus Gaunt in the cutoff, who shoved all in for 540,000 with {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Lydia Waltonbaugh reraised all in to 2,600,000 with {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} from the small blind and Andy Spears folded his big blind, making it time to run the cards.

The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Gaunt has been eliminated from the tournament, while Waltonbaugh finds herself with almost three million in her stack with five players remaining.

Anthony McIe picked up {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and opened to 225,000 on the button. Andy Spears shoved with {a-Clubs}{8-Spades} in the big blind for 1.6 million and McIe snapped it off.

The {j-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop brought a set for McIe but Spears had outs with a double gutter. The {5-Spades} was a brick, as was the {4-Clubs}, and Spears took his leave in fifth.

Jason Pickup Eliminated in 4th Place ($22,518)

Level 30 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Jason Pickup
Jason Pickup

Lydia Waltonbaugh saw action folded to her in the small blind, who limped {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Jason Pickup checked his {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} from the small blind and the two went to the {2-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{6-Spades} flop. Waltonbaugh checked her flopped set to Pickup, who bet 150,000 with his pair of twos. The turn brought the {9-Diamonds}, giving Pickup two pair. Waltonbaugh again checked, and Pickup announced all in for around 1.7 million, which was nearly three times the pot. Waltonbaugh snap called and tabled her hand, and Pickup was down to the final two nines in the deck. The river fell {q-Diamonds} and Waltonbaugh secured the double

After the hand, Pickup was down to his last 40,000 and was eliminated on the next hand with {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} to Dan Wagner's {10-Clubs}{3-Spades} on a {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades} runout, and takes home $22,518 for his efforts.

Dan Wagner

Dan Wagner raised to 320,000 with {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Lydia Waltonbaugh defended big blind with {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Waltonbaugh checked the {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flop and Wagner bet 525,000. Waltonbaugh peeled and the {8-Hearts} arrived. Waltonbaugh simply moved all in and Wagner snap-called for his 1.9 million.

The two showed down and Waltonbaugh was in need of help. She didn't get it on the {5-Clubs} river.

Lydia Waltonbaugh moved in from the small blind with {q-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Anthony McIe called in the big with {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

The {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop helped Waltonbaugh not at all but the {q-Spades} turn was exactly what she needed. However, an {a-Clubs} river doomed her, much to the dismay of a vocal rail.

Anthony McIe Eliminated in 2nd Place ($48,215)

Level 31 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Anthony McIe
Anthony McIe

Anthony McIe opened the button to 500,000 again with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Dan Wagner looked down at {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}. He announced he was all in, and McIe quickly called. The two turned their cards over in a classic coin flip situation.

The {j-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop gave Wagner a set, putting him firmly ahead of McIe's top pair and Broadway draw. The turn was the {9-Spades}, and the river was the {j-Hearts} to give Wagner quads and the massive pot.

After the hand, McIe found himself short with 1.4 million and got all in preflop the next hand with {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} versus Wagner's {q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{a-Spades}, ending McIe's run with a second-place finish.
