Welcome to Day 3 of HPT Ameristar East Chicago

Greg Raymer
Greg Raymer

The HPT Ameristar East Chicago $1,650 Main Event started with 520 entrants, but today, the final table of nine will converge at Noon local time in the ballroom inside the beautiful Ameristar East Chicago Casino. The final table, which will be filmed for future television broadcast, will also be streamed on the HPT's Twitch channel on a short delay, with the PokerNews blog coverage syncing with the stream.

All nine players have already locked up a five-figure payday of $14,906, but they'll all be vying for the top prize of $171,411. To go along with that whopping sum of money, the victor will also receive a $3,500 Championship Package towards the HPT Season XVI Championship Event, and 140 Player of the Year Points, giving whoever takes this final table down an early lead in the HPT's Player of the Year Leaderboard.

Greg Raymer already owns four HPT Main Event titles, all in 2012 when he won the HPT's Player of the Year race. A win in today's event would propel him into third on the HPT's All-Time Money list, with Craig Casino and Reginald "Shawn" Roberts the only left to top. With the second-biggest chip count at 2,275,000, he's put himself in prime position to add another notch to an already remarkable poker career.

Even Bethyo comes into play with the chip lead at 3,355,000, and will be looking to ride to momentum from an outstanding Day 2 to earn his first HPT title. David "The Maven" Gutfreund, who has an HPT title of his own from 2014's HPT Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort Main Event, sits with 1,520,000 and will be looking to cross the $1 million marker in lifetime tournament earnings today, which he would achieve with a runner-up or better performance.

Rounding out the field are a mix of locals to the region, as six of the final table members are from Illinois, while a seventh, Dale Hackney, hails from nearby Michigan. The average stack sits at a hair over 57 big blinds, meaning these nine players should have plenty of play as they grind their way down to a champion.

HPT Tournament Director Jeremy Smith is currently going over procedures and announcements with the players, who will return to Level 24 (15,000/30,000/30,000) with 47:00 remaining in the level.

Remember, our coverage of the final table will be synced with the HPT's Twitch channel through the day, so there will be a delay of 30 minutes before coverage begins. This coverage includes hole cards, and live commentary.

Benjamin Craig Eliminated in 9th Place ($14,906)

Bohdan Slyvinskyi raised to 60,000 from hijack with {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, and Evan Bethyo called in the cutoff. Benjamin Craig three-bet shoved for 195,000 from the small blind, and Slyvinskyi four-bet to 400,000. Bethyo five-bet jammed, and Slyvinskyi folded, saving his last 1.1 million.

Benjamin Craig: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Evan Bethyo: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

A classic race came to a screeching halt for Craig when the {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop gave Bethyo a set. The {8-Diamonds} turn and {j-Clubs} river couldn't deliver Craig a running straight, and the start-of-the-day short stack exits the final table, while Bethyo hits the four-million chip marker.

Dave Gutfreund raised to 120,000 from under the gun, and action folded to Dale Hackney in the big blind. Hackney moved in for 530,000 and Gutfreund called.

Dale Hackney: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
David Gutfreund: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

Hackney took a big lead on the {2-Spades}{k-Spades}{a-Clubs} flop, leaving Gutfreund looking for a two-outer. Hackney's brutal day continued, however, as the {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn, giving Gutfreund a set. The {4-Spades} river would fail to give Hackney an ace or king, and Gutfreund scored the elimination.

Matt Schurter raised to 100,000 from middle position, and David Gutfreund three-bet to 350,000 from the button. Bohdan Slyvinskyi four-bet shoved for 515,000 in the big blind, Schurter folded and Gutfreund called.

Bohdan Slyvinskyi: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
David Gutfreund: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Slyvinskyi survived the {4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop and {9-Hearts} turn, and improved to kings-full on the {k-Spades} river to double up.

Matt Schurter jammed for 775,000 from under the gun, and Evan Bethyo asked for a count before making the call in the big blind.

Matt Schurter: {a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Evan Bethyo: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Schurter had a kicker problem, and the {10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop was no help. The {k-Diamonds} turn and {7-Diamonds} river gave Bethyo the nut flush, and Schurter, who started in 86th out of 89 Day 2 entrants, makes his exit in seventh.

Marc Yofon raised from the cutoff with {a-}{j-}, and Bohdan Slyvinskyi three-bet shoved for 415,000 in the big blind with {a-}{6-}. Yofon made the call, and a dry runout left Slyvinskyi out the door in sixth.

Tim Barany Eliminated in 5th Place ($36,147)

Tim Barany
Tim Barany

Greg Raymer raised to 160,000 from under the gun with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and Tim Barany three-bet shoved for 1.1 million in the small blind. Evan Bethyo called in the big blind, and Raymer tanked for a minute before folding.

Tim Barany: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Evan Bethyo: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Barany ran into the rockets of Bethyo, but Raymer would've spiked a set on the {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop. Barany needed running cards to survive, and while the {q-Spades} gave him a gutshot, the {j-Clubs} river was too little, too late for Barany.

Marc Yofon

Marc Yofon raised to 160,000 from the button, and Evan Bethyo three-bet shoved in the big blind. Yofon snapped off his last 2.1 million in chips.

Marc Yofon: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Evan Bethyo: {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

It was Bethyo's turn to run into the rockets, but a bailout was in store for him as the {k-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop gave Bethyo a set and the lead. The {10-Hearts} turn and {q-Clubs} river failed to bring an ace for Yofon, eliminating him.

"Man, that's not how I wanted to knock you out!" Bethyo told Yofon after the hand. The two shook hands, and Bethyo now sits with over two-thirds of the chips in play.

David Gutfreund
David Gutfreund

Greg Raymer raised to 160,000 from the small blind, then snap-called when David Gutfreund three-bet shoved for 1.1 million in the big blind.

David Gutfreund: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Greg Raymer: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

"Don't leave me with this guy, man!" Evan Bethyo told Gutfreund with a grin.

"Duckieeee! Quack quack!" Gutfreund called after the {5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop left him seeking a deuce to survive. He would be left wanting after the {8-Hearts} turn and {3-Hearts} river, and he exits in third.
