Juen More Time

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Alban Juen
Alban Juen

It was yet another quick-fire day at the ISPT poker tables as we lost 78 of the 98 players that came back for Day 4. With the action moved off the field and into the Bobby Moore suite, it was qualifier Alban Juen, who, having led at the start of Day 2 and Day 3, retook the lead right at the death.

Ole Schemion, who has been on a hot streak for the last year, had begun the day as chip leader that also counted Toby Lewis and Sam Trickett amongst the biggest stacks. Schemion and Trickett were drawn on the same table and it made for some intriguing early battles, most of which were won by the German. Trickett ended up busting fairly early, donated his €3,000 prize money to the dealers and headed straight to the airport and the WSOP. Other big names who didn't make it through included Lewis, Mat Frankland, Antoine Saout and Peter Eastgate.

It was Trickett's former foes in the Nottingham poker scene, Pete Linton and Nick Hicks, who were at this point vying for the chip lead as Schemion lost several big pots, eventually falling in a flip. It looked as though Hicks would be the overall chip leader after he eliminated Amy Trodd in a 3 million chip pot with aces against kings, but then Alban's late rally right at the end just pushed him in front for Day 5.

They'll be joined by Freddy Deeb, Praz Bansi, Julian Gardner and Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, all still hoping for that €1 million first prize.

Tomorrow we'll be playing down to the final table from 12pm UK time. Remember to join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team for all the updates on the penultimate day of the ISPT.

Deeb Busts Moreira in Long Controversial Hand

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb

Andre Moreira opened to 66,000 preflop and Leigh Wiltshire made the call before Freddy Deeb made it 291,000 to go.

Now, this is where the controversy started as the dealer cut out the three-bet but told Moreira it was 191,000 not 291,000. Moreira then pushed out a bet of 380,000 and Wiltshire folded, getting out of the way.

Deeb was thinking about what to do next when the floor spotted that Moreira had made an under-raise and came over to sort out what to do next. Moreira was adamant that the dealer had told him 191,000 and his raise was a response to that. The floor was close to ruling that despite what the dealer had said, the raise was clearly visible to all players. Moreira was not happy and so the floor called Simon Trumper over to clarify what the ruling was.

During the time that Trumper spent gathering the information, Deeb was incensed when Moreira spoke in Portuguese to a compatriot (a journalist covering the action). Trumper ruled that even though the dealer had given Moreira the wrong information, the size of the raise was still clearly obvious to all players on the table.

The 380,000 Moreira had put out was less than a 50% raise on Deeb's three-bet (he would've needed to put out 414,000 to have been able to make the full minimum raise) and instead it was a call. After this 10 minutes of debating, the rest of the action followed incredibly quickly.

The flop was {3-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Deeb simply moved all in with Moreira, perhaps slightly tilted, calling off his stack.

Deeb: {K-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Moreira: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

The turn was the {J-Spades} and the river was the {9-Spades}. Deeb eliminating a very disgruntled Moreira as a result.

Hicks Busts Trodd in Huge Pot

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Nick Hicks with Sam Trickett on Day 3
Nick Hicks with Sam Trickett on Day 3

Nick Hicks opened to 65,000 from UTG and Amy Trodd made it 130,000 from the small blind, the big blind then made it 285,000 in a cold four-bet before Hicks five-bet to 585,000. Trodd moved all in and the big blind quickly folded, Hicks instantly called.

Trodd: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Hicks: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Hicks is up to a huge 3.6 million in chips.

Why You Never Celebrate Too Soon

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Tom Kugelstadt
Tom Kugelstadt

And here we have a classic example of celebrating too early and why it can cost you.

The flop was reading {5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and Tom Kugelstadt had moved all in over the top of Ken Broad's 60,000 bet. Broad had about 140,000 left and was deliberating.

"I don't think you've got anything...I've got something," he told Kugelstadt.

After taking several minutes to think, he apologised for taking so long to which Albert Sapiano replied with some slightly colourful language he'd prefer Broad hurry up as he [Sapiano] was in the big blind next.

Finally Broad made the call.

Broad: {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Kugelstadt: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

The turn came, the {5-Diamonds} and suddenly Broad erupted, "YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS. WHO IS YOUR DADDY?" in a cry that reverberated around the Bobby Moore suite. In fact, he'd was so ecstatic he hadn't even noticed that although he'd made trips, Kugelstadt now had a gutshot straight flush draw and numerous outs.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and suddenly Broad's energetic shouting was cut to a halt as though someone had pressed the 'mute' button on a remote control. He looked more deflated than a punctured tyre.

Kugelstadt, for his part, was like an actor who had just missed his cue and a couple of moments after the stunned silence and realisation of what had happened, he let out a slightly quieter "Weeeeeeeee," comprised entirely of the sort of satisfaction that you only get when you hit your redraw after being sucked out on.

Someone came over to ask what had happened.

Sapiano replied, "The Daddy is dead."
