Minten Wins Two in a Row

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Niek Minten
Niek Minten

1) After an open to 300 and a 3-bet to 1,000, Minten made it 2,800 from the hijack. Both of his opponents called so it was 3-way to the flop of {A-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. It checked to Minten who bet 1,200. One fold, the other player check-raised to 3,800. Minten called in position.

The {3-Spades} on the turn saw Minten's opponent bet 10,000, more than enough to put Minten all in. Minten called for 7,500 and showed {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. His neighbor had {5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a flush draw and missed with the {J-Diamonds} on the river.

2) The next hand, Minten opened for 300 from the hijack. The button 3-bet to 1,000 and Minten called. Minten check-called 600 on {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and another 1,800 on the {4-Diamonds} turn. Minten then lead out for what seemed 1,250 on the {5-Clubs} river. His opponent called, but mucked upon being shown {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} by Minten.

"Wrong Decision" Turns Out Great for Lykov

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

As we arrived, the board was already out in a 3-way pot: {2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{K-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Lykov had a 5,000-chip in front of him and had apparently said "five five". There was some confusion with Lykov saying he meant 5,500, while the dealer said it was a bet of 550.

The brush came over and after some arguing, he said: "I'm going to make a decision, it's 550."

"That's the wrong decision," Lykov said, backed by Louis Salter who had stated that it was obvious Lykov had meant 5,500. The floor was actually right, according to the TDA rules, but Lykov wasn't happy with it.

His first opponent tanked for a bit and ultimately decided just to call. The small blind overcalled.

Lykov showed {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for nothing but ace-high and the pair on the board. The player in late position tabled {3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a straight and took down the pot.

"It's ok, 5,500?" the Dutch player asked with a smile.

"No, no, no! It's a good decision!" Lykov replied with an even bigger smile, as the decision had saved him 4,950 in chips.

Buissink Hits Lucky River to Boost Stack

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

After a raise to 300, Kees Aerts 3-bet to 700. Marcel Buissink, sitting right behind Aerts, intended to call the 300 having missed the 3-bet, but called 700 total anyway. Two more players called (one of them being Raul van Boxtel) and the initial raiser called as well to make it 5-way.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and the initial raiser open-pushed all in for 3,825. Aerts raised to 7,650 and Marcel Buissink and another player folded. Raul van Boxtel folded, and Kees Aerts eventually folded his {A-}{10-} as well.

Initial raiser: {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Marcel Buissink: {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Third player: {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

The {Q-Clubs} on the turn was a blank and Aerts started sighing how he had won 3 bounties had he called. The river, though, came the {3-Spades} and Buissink made straight to scoop most of the pot. The initial raiser busted, the third player still had some chips left. Buissink started stacking a stack worth almost 50,000.

Ruys Busts His Neighbor

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

Just back from break, Joris Ruys eliminated his neighbor. In a battle of the blinds, Ruys got it in with {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} from the big blind against the small blind's {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and Ruys started stacking. His neighbor was worth €750, so Ruys pockets €380 while Ruys himself is now worth €870 to others.

Van den Berg Versus Bijen

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

In a pot between Thierry van den Berg (early position) and Dennis Bijen (cutoff), the flop of {A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and {8-Clubs} turn were both checked.

The river {Q-Hearts} saw Van den Berg casually throw in a single 1,000 chip. Bijen called instantly, but mucked upon being shown {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} by Van den Berg.

Lykov Up a Bit

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

On a board of {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}, we saw Cor Janssen check-call a bet of 8,000 from Maxim Lykov. Janssen, a Dutch local legend known for his fun demeanor at the table, checked again on the {9-Hearts} river. Lykov bet over 10,000 and Janssen open folded his {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

"I had to give something back eventually," Janssen said, "Life isn't just about taking after all."

The next hand, Janssen limped under the gun. Maxim Lykov raised to 525 and Noah Boeken called. A player in the blinds shoved for what appeared to be 6,000, and Janssen folded. Lykov went with it, Boeken folded.

Maxim Lykov: {K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Blind: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Lykov collected the bounty.
