€1,600 NLH Progressive Bounty 8-Max
Day 1 Started
For the first time at the Master Classics of Poker, a live progressive bounty event. After a successful test run in Rotterdam last year, the unique format has now been implemented in many local poker series in the Netherlands. And now, upon request by the players, a €1,600 version at the MCOP.
The concept is widely available online, but live some logistics had to be figured out for it to work. Holland Casino found a simple but good solution, and players seem to enjoy it a great deal.
Players buy in for €1,500 + €100. €1,000 of that goes to the regular prize pool, and €500 is put on players' heads as a bounty. If you knock out a player, you pocket half of the bounty, and the other half goes on top of your own bounty. That way, the more people you knock out, the more you're worth yourself. It goes without saying that this alters the game's dynamics drastically.
The event gets underway at 4 p.m. with 80 seats available. Players start with 20,000 in chips and no option to rebuy or to reenter. Levels are 40 minutes long. Day 2 starts at 2 p.m. tomorrow as the tournament plays till the inaugural Progressive Bounty champion is crowned.

Bartel Kars, who won one of the events at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam last year, was just involved in ahand with an interesting outcome.
After the river, he showed his to his opponent. His opponent, who turned out to be his neighbor, said the Dutch equivalent of "Higher".
Kars mucked, thinking his opponent meant that he had a higher hand than just a pair of fives. It turned out, though, Kars' opponent had just for a pair of threes.
Since Kars had mucked, the brush was called over. But, it turned out there wasn't much of an issue since Kars' opponent didn't even want the pot, having seen that he was beat. So as quick as the brushes came, so quick were they gone again as the dealer pushed the small pot to Kars.

We picked up the action on a flop of as the small blind and hijack checked. Tonny Krijn, seated in the cutoff, bet 1,100. The small blind called, the hijack folded.
Both players checked the on the turn and the completed the board. The small blind bet 2,100 and Krijn called after some time in the tank.
The small blind showed and she raked in the pot as Krijn mucked.

Joep van den Bijgaart was one of the early casualties today. We got some details from former tablemate Noah Boeken, en Van den Bijgaart himself later added some more.
Holding , Van den Bijgaart squeezed before the flop and both of the players who had already voluntarily put chips into the pot, called to make it 3-way to the flop.
On the flop with a flush draw, Van den Bijgaart saw one of his opponents check-raise. Van den Bijgaart called in position and called the push that followed on the turn as well. The turn had brought a second flush draw but, unfortunately for Van den Bijgaart, his opponent had for a set and not one of the flush draws. The river wasn't one of the 2 remaining jacks Van den Bijgaart needed, and he made an early exit.
