Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Casino
Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Casino

Welcome to coverage of Day 1c of Event #7 $2,200 MPP Warm Up at the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party held at the luxurious Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Casino in beautiful North Cyprus.

If the previous two days are anything to go by, the field will be in for a treat with the poker royalty that are likely to attend this event. So far Chino Rheem, Steve O'Dwyer, and Uri Reichenstein are among the 69 players who have advanced to Day 2 out of the 440 players that have entered. The players who have progressed have locked up a slice of the guaranteed $2,000,000 prize pool.

Players who have played in the previous two flights but failed to secure a place to Day 2 include Dzmitry Urbanovich, Manig Loeser, Bruno Fitoussi, Timur Margolin and Florian Duta. All will be expected to have another shot today and there could be more surprise appearances from the upper echelons of the poker elite.

Cards will be in the air at noon, local time with late registration closing at 9.45 p.m. local time. Each player will receive a starting stack of 50,000 and blinds will increase after every 40 minutes. Players will have the option of one reentry if they bust before late registration closes, failing that there is a turbo flight later in the day which will be the last chance to advance to Day 2.

There will be a 15-minute break after every three levels, apart from the 60-minute dinner break at approximately 7 p.m. local time. From Day 2, which is on Sunday, August 28th, a 30-second shot clock will be introduced with players receiving time bank cards to allow for more thinking time.

Play will continue until the field is whittled down to 15% of the total entrants that day, with play expected to conclude in the early hours of tomorrow morning. If they make the 15% they are guaranteed a minimum cash.

With 2,000 in the middle on a flop of {q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, Dmitry Astratov bet 800 from the hijack and was called by the button and the big blind.

The {4-Diamonds} was tabled on the turn and Astratov ramped up their bet to 2,500. The bet was too hot for the button and big blind as they both folded and Astratov took down the pot.

Saad Grabs Pot

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Four ways to a flop of {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} with 9,000 in the middle, the small blind bet 3,500. Under the gun Mark Saad called, while the hijack and button folded.

The {7-Spades} came on the turn. The small blind checked and Saad bet enough to put the small blind all in for 17,100. The small blind took a minute of contemplation before folding.
