Day 1cd Started

Welcome to Day 1c of Event #19: $3,300 Main Event

Roman Gadzhiev

The pinnacle of the Merit Poker Carmen Series at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino is well underway, with two of four starting flights in the books for its flagship tournament, Event #19: $3,300 Main Event. Today features the latter two flights, with all those taking to the felt today hoping to join the 214 survivors who currently have a seat on Day 2.

Days 1a and 1b attracted a total of 450 entries, meaning that only 50 more are required to meet the tournament's lofty $1,500,000 guarantee. That figure is sure to be passed on Day 1c. Through the first two flights, Roman Gadzhiev managed to bag the biggest stack with 821,000, well ahead of his nearest competitor, Day 1b chipleader Vitalii Pankov (585,000). Whether or not any individual in this flight is able to catch Gadzhiev remains to be seen.

Play commences at 12 p.m. local time with all those who enter starting with 100,000 in tournament chips. Blinds will start at 200/500 with a 500 big blind ante with levels on Day 1c lasting 40-minutes (as opposed to 60-minutes on Days 1a and 1b). A total of nine levels will be played today before the survivors bag up for the night, with late registration not closing until Level 13 on Day 2.

Day 2 resumes on Friday, March 31st at 12 p.m. at which point the fields from all four starting flights will combined into one. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as its live reporting team provides updates through to the conclusion of Event #19: $3,300 Main Event.

Etim Fills Up To Score Early Knockout

Level 2 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Florian Duta opened to 1,300 from under the gun before Terence Etim three-bet to 4,200 one seat over. The player to his left called before a player in middle position cold four-bet to 15,000. Action folded back around to Duta who quickly released his holding while Etim, after some deliberation, called. The player to his left folded to send action heads-up to the flop with a big pot brewing.

Both players checked through the {4-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop to the {k-Spades} turn at which point Etim checked for a second time. The middle position player tossed out a bet of 16,000 and Etim called.

The {7-Spades} river completed the board and saw Etim check for a third time. His opponent, after a considerable amount of time, moved all in and with no hesitation Etim called, turning over {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} for the full house. The middle position player, who had the effective stack, meekly turned over {q-}{q-} before announcing "rebuy" while Etim raked in a huge pot early in the day.

Ionel Gets Bluff Through

Level 2 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Anton Ionel, fresh off a final table appearance in Event #13: $5,300 High Roller, opened to 1,200 from middle position only to see a player on the button three-bet to 3,600. The blinds got out of the way to send the action back to Ionel who opted to flat.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} but neither player chose to take a stab at the pot, instead checking through to the {6-Diamonds} turn. Ionel then pushed 5,600 into the middle but that was not enough to get the three-bettor off of his hand as he instead called.

Barely had the {4-Spades} hit the felt on the river before Ionel tossed 15,000 into the pot. That did not appear to sit well with his opponent who, though seemingly an unbeliever, released his holding. Ionel flipped over {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for the missed gutshot bluff, eliciting a "nice hand" from his opponent.
