Applause for Kara Scott

Kara Scott
Kara Scott

Kara Scott is battling against substitute opponent Andrew Robl but so far Robl has had the upper hand in their match. A short-stacked Scott got her chips in pre-flop with two black kings; Robl tried to eliminate her with {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Robl flopped a pair of tens but never improved after that, {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Scott doubled up to some scattered applause from the crowd.

Lights Out for Lights Out

Frank Kassela is wearing "Lights Out" Poker gear for today's match. Seems fitting: the curtain has fallen on his tournament. In a limped pot, Kassela led a {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop. Bord check-raised all in with {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, a flush draw; Kassela called with {10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. Bord's flush filled after turna nd river cards of {a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Each player stood up, shook hands, and then Kassela headed for the exit.

Bord will return tomorrow.

River Full of Miracles for the Brat

Minutes ago, Phil Hellmuth was all in against David Benyamine but managed to run out a chop to stay alive. This time, he found himself at risk with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} to Benyamine's {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. No help from the {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop. Hellmuth stood up from his seat. Turn was the {8-Diamonds}. Didn't seem that helpful. The whole side of the room erupted as the {6-Diamonds} on the river put a straight on the board and sent Hellmuth's chips back to him. And the game continues.

Scott Won't Be Queen of Hearts Either

Despite doubling up against Andrew Robl earlier, a short-stacked Kara Scott moved in pre-flop again, this time with {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Robl showed {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, almost the same hand he had for their last all-in encounter. Scott must have been surprsied to be in the lead, but this time Robl's 10-8 overtook her, {7-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{j-Spades}. Robl's jack-high straight eliminated Scott here in the Round of 64.

Goodbye, Gustav

Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith

Gavin Smith and Gus Hansen were all in for about ten minutes while they waited nervously for Leeann Tweeden to finish filming her introduction to the new feature table (Tom Dwan and Don Cheadle were moved there after Phil Laak busted Daniel Negreanu). Then they had to wait some more while cameras captured the all-in between Kara Scott and Andrew Robl. And finally, finally it was their turn.

They'd been staring at the {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop long enough to have it memorized it by the time they were allowed to table their cards. Smith was in the lead with {k-Spades}{3-Spades} for top pair and had Hansen covered. Gus needed help with his {9-Clubs}{8-Spades} for middle pair. The {j-Diamonds} turn and {2-Hearts} river were bricks, and after a long wait, it was all over quickly.

"I lost $100 on that," Smith said. "I had Hansen to win it." Gavin will play James Bord in the next round.

Crowd Goes Wild for Emmitt's Double-Up

David Williams and Emmitt Smith
David Williams and Emmitt Smith

Former NFL running sensation Emmitt Smith was quite short against David Williams. Smith got it in pre-flop with {j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and was called by Williams' {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. The unimproved ace was still in front on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, then improved to a pair of aces with the {a-Hearts} turn. That card also gave Smith a flush draw.

David Williams' mother couldn't watch the river card come down; Smith's rail was on their feet. They exploded in cheer at the {7-Hearts} river that filled Smith's flush and kept his match alive.

Not Curtains for Cheadle Yet

Tom Dwan and Don Cheadle chopped another all-in when they both tabled pocket jacks. But their third all-in had a clear winner. Cheadle was at risk with {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts} to Dwan's {q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. The flop was pretty decisive: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, and durrrr was drawing dead. He's still got a lead over Cheadle, however.
