Bloch Sweats Out a Double

Andy Bloch was at risk with {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} when he and John Juanda got their chips in preflop after plenty of small ball. Juanda's {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs} got a little help from the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop. The audience collectively gasped at the {9-Clubs} turn, but the card quickly came into focus on the overhead monitors to show it wasn't another ten. The {2-Diamonds} river was clearly safe, and Bloch doubled to take a small lead. Blinds are huge at this point, and it's still anyone's game.

The Hard Luck of Andy Bloch

Andy Bloch just doesn't have much heads-up run-good. He and John Juanda were all in after a flop of {6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. Juanda showed down top pair, {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Bloch had middle pair and a draw, {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Bloch's draw got even better with the {4-Diamonds} turn but he couldn't end the match. The river was the {7-Clubs}, allowing the lead to swing back to Juanda.

Presto Ping Pong

Andy Bloch and John Juanda are keeping the cameras busy. This time when all the money crossed the betting line, Bloch was at risk with {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}. It was a flip against Juanda's {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}. The {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} was beautiful for Bloch. Juanda was quickly drawing dead after the {8-Diamonds} turn, and Bloch is back in the lead.

Duhamel: Still Running Good

Jonathan Duhamel found himself in the unenviable position of pushing all in pre-flop with {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Melvin Whitmire called with {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and a commanding chip lead.

"It's a queen in the window -- and two sevens behind!" exclaimed MOC Jordan Siegel. Duhamel gave his trademark smirk at the {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. By the river, Duhamel improved to quads. He's still behind in the match but he has the slightest bit of breathing room now.

Blinds Up

Blinds are moving to 800/1,600. That means each heads-up match has a total of 31 big blinds on the table. Can't be too long now.

Advantage: Bloch

At the Bloch-Juanda table, neither player can seem to win that second point in a row to end the match. The advantage is back to Bloch. He flopped bottom two pair against Juanda's top pair, {4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, then caught running fours for quads.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Duhamel and Melvin Whitmire seem stuck in molasses. Maybe tar. Definitely some viscous liquid.

Juanda's Path Finally Bloched

After enough back-and-forth to fill an entire episode, Andy Bloch has finally finished John Juanda. Bloch moved in with {k-Spades}{2-Spades}, and Juanda called all in with {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.

The {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop gave Bloch top pair. Juanda wasn't out yet, as the {q-Clubs} on the turn gave him five outs. But the {8-Hearts} river paired the board, and with kings and eights, Bloch moves on to play Jason Mercier tomorrow. We'll see if Bloch's "run like a human being" can stand Mercier's heat.

Somehow, Jonathan Duhamel and Melburn Whitmire are still going. There has only been one all in on their table so far.

Duhamel: Still Running Good (Redux)

The Duhamel-Whitmire match, now dragging into its 14th hour, saw a rare all-in pre-flop situation. Jonathan Duhamel's {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flopped fantastic against Melvin Whitmire's {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, {10-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Whitmire was left with the incredibly unlikely running straight flush draw.

Duhamel runs better than that, of course, so it didn't come. Duhamel is now on the cusp of victory.

Clubs Concluded for the Day

The clubs bracket jumped out of the gate once Scotty Nguyen finally arrived. He was back out the door a few minutes later, falling prey to Barry Greenstein's flopped two pair and turned boat. Annette Obrestad was the next quick casualty when her flush draw missed against 2010 WSOP Heads-Up Champion Ayaz Mahmood.

After some friendly banter for the cameras, Liv Boeree defeated Jason Alexander on the feature table. Not long after, Olivier "LivB" Busquet skewered Dwyte Pilgrim, making the dream Liv B v. Liv B. match a reality. Jason Mercier busted Ted Forrest, and Antonio Esfandiari went runner-runner on Nicolas Chouity to flatten his jacks with a wheel.

Esfandiari hugged the dealer and left, taking all of the momentum with him out of the room. Andy Bloch and John Juanda traded chips back and forth in what felt like a dozen all ins, while Jonathan Duhamel and Melburn Whitmire had us wondering if someone should check for a pulse. But eventually Bloch put together two all-in wins in a row to oust Juanda, and Duhamel found the sweet spot in the deck available only to former Main Event winners. With quads, a flopped flush, and a flopped set, he finally busted the second of two qualifiers to hit the rail.

Here are the club bracket match-ups for Saturday's round of 32:

Olivier Busquet v. Liv Boeree
Jason Mercier v. Andy Bloch
Barry Greenstein v. Ayaz Mahmood
Jonathan Duhamel v. Antonio Esfandiari

Action will resume with the hearts bracket at 6:45 pst.
