Georges Hanna Eliminated in 8th Place ($29,235)

Georges Hanna - 8th Place
Georges Hanna - 8th Place

It's the Van Marcus Cooler Show here at the 2010 Full Tilt Poker Merit Cyprus Classic. Yet again, Marcus picked up a premium pair to a shorter-stacked player's slightly-lesser premium pair. Just like last time when he eliminated Kari Somer, Marcus was the one who would come out on top in the preflop all-in battle.

Marcus raised to 60,000 from middle position and Georges Hanna moved all in for about 310,000 from the cutoff seat. After everyone folded, Marcus snapped him off, tabling the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}. Hanna held the {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}.

The flop came down {K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Hanna was still in need of a miracle. The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and the river the {Q-Hearts}. Hanna couldn't muster the suckout and Marcus earned the pot. With that elimination, Marcus pushed his stack to 1.48 million in chips. Hanna was sent to the rail in eighth place for $29,235. One more to go before play ends for the night.

Krause Doubles Through Vasvenszki; Marcus Takes Lead

From under the gun, Zsolt Vasvenszki raised to 54,000. Andreas Krause moved all in for 426,000 from the button. Vasvenszki made the call and held the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. Krause held the {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {9-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Krause was able to doubled to over 900,000. Vasvenszki dropped to 1.35 million and that mean Van Marcus is the new chip leader.

Vasvenszki Picks One from Marcus

Zsolt Vasvenszki raised to 54,000 and Van Marcus called from the big blind. Vasvenszki had raised from the cutoff position.

The two saw a monotone flop of {K-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} and both players checked. The turn brought the {7-Spades} and Marcus checked to Vasvenszki, who fired 62,000. Marcus folded the {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} face up and Vasvenszki was pushed the pot.

King High Is Good

Van Marcus raised to 60,000 from the button. Mathieu Clavet made the call from the big blind and the flop came down {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Action was checked by both players to see the {4-Clubs} fall on the turn. Action was checked again to see the {2-Diamonds} hit the river. Guess what? Action was checked again.

Clavet announced jack high and Marcus tabled the {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for the winner.

"You call the river?" asked Marcus.

"Not against the nits," responded Clavet.

"Thanks for the respect," finished Marcus.

Konstantinos Nanos Eliminated in 7th Place ($42,230)

Konstantinos Nanos - 7th Place
Konstantinos Nanos - 7th Place

From the small blind, Konstantinos Nanos completed. Zsolt Vasvenszki was in the big blind and raised to 59,000. Nanos reraised all in for 413,000 and Vasvenszki made the call. Nanos was all in and at risk with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. Vasvenszki held the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}.

The flop came down {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Nanos picked up a pair of queens to pull even further in front. There wasn't much there for Vasvenszki, but the {9-Hearts} on the turn did give him a gutshot straight draw along with his overcard.

A big crowd gathered and anxiously awaited the river card. The final card to the board was the {10-Spades} and spiked Vasvenszki's gutter ball, giving him a king-high straight and the winner. Nanos was left with the dreaded feeling of bubbling the televised final table, finish in seventh place for $42,230.

Vasvenszki reclaimed the chip lead with this pot and finishes the day with 1.885 million in chips, where he'll start tomorrow's televised final table at the front of the pack.
