A Champion Will be Crowned in the ₩10,000,000 Super High Roller

Red Dragon Trophy
Red Dragon Trophy

The final day of the 2019 PokerStars LIVE Asia Red Dragon Jeju has come and the last events will play down to a winner at the Jeju Shinhwa World - Landing Casino including the Red Dragon Anniversary event and the ₩10,000,000 Super High Roller. Following up on the big numbers of all other flagship events, the most expensive tournament of the festival gathered an impressive field of 75 entries including 62 unique players so far.

Both of those numbers may still increase as the late registration and re-entry period remains open for the first 40-minute level of the final day, which kicks off at 1 p.m. local time. With a starting stack of 250,000 and recommencing blinds of 4,000-8,000 with a big blind ante of 8,000, the event may very well create a bigger prize pool than the initial ₩5,000,000 High Roller

Three players from Singapore sit at the top of the leaderboard heading into Day 2 as Graeme Siow (1,570,000), Alex Lee (1,004,000) and Dingxiang Ong (813,000) started out strong. Other notables such as Szymon Wysocki (711,000), Shenming Yin (595,000), Steve Yea (594,000), Joshua Zimmerman (576,000), Lester Edoc (558,000), Kazuhiko Yotsushika (540,000), Natalie Teh (514,000), Yake Wu (450,000) and Jamie Lee (417,000) all claimed above-average stacks as well.

Once the first level of Day 2 has concluded, the registration period will close and the prize pool information will get released. The tournament will play down to a winner with an ongoing level duration of 40 minutes and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide all the action.

Yotsushika Eliminated by Wu

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Kazuhiko Yotsushika
Kazuhiko Yotsushika

It was a wild roller coaster ride by Kazuhiko Yotsushika that saw him climb up to more than a million, drop below the starting stack, double and now he eventually busted just before the blinds went up for the third level of the day. It was his nemesis Yake Wu that dealt the final blow when they got it in with the following cards.

Kazuhiko Yotsushika: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Yake Wu: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The board came {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and Yotsushika could not find a miracle double.

On the {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop, Lee check-called a bet by Ding. The {k-Diamonds} turn was checked by Lee once more and Ding bet 105,000. Xiong called and Lee check-raised to 280,000. Ding pushed for 550,000 and Xiong folded, Lee snap-called.

Huge Double for Zimmerman

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Joshua Zimmerman
Joshua Zimmerman

Joshua Zimmerman has an evening flight to Hong Kong booked and may have to forfeit it in case he runs very deep in this event. He doubled not long ago thanks to an ace on the river and now he scored another double in the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

Jizhong Wang opened to 30,000 from under the gun and Zimmerman three-bet to 130,000 from one seat over. Out of the big blind, Yake Wu simply shoved for nearly 2 million and Wang folded.

Zimmerman mentioned in table chat that he considered to "gamble" and indeed made the call for 826,000.

Joshua Zimmerman: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Yake Wu: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} board delivered the ace on the flop while Wang said in Chinese in table chat he had folded ace-king.

Xiang Liu Wins Baby Dragon for ₩142,946,000

Level 14 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Baby Dragon Champion Xiang Liu
Baby Dragon Champion Xiang Liu

Concurrently to Day 1 of the ₩10,000,000 Super High Roller, the ₩1,500,000 Baby Dragon has played down to a champion and it was Xian Liu that emerged victoriously after cutting a deal with Yunsheng Sun in heads-up and winning the duel for the extra money and trophy.

Liu bested a 593-strong field – a new country record for the event – and the top 72 players were guaranteed a portion of the ₩776,534,000 (~US$662,815) prize pool after both starting days had played down to the top 12% and money. The victory comes with a payday of ₩142,946,000 (~US$122,080) while Sun is taking home ₩130,000,000 for his runner-up finish.

One year ago, James Won Lee topped a field of 298 entries to earn himself the Baby Dragon trophy and payday of ₩74,310,000 (US$66,361), and the American was also in the running on Day 1 of the ₩10,000,000 Super High Roller as well where he bagged and tagged for Day 2. The attendance of the 2018 edition was nearly doubled and increased by a mighty 98.9%.

Returning notables to come up short of the final table included Day 1 frontrunner Qiuning Zhang (15th for ₩8,542,000), Australia's Kelvin Beattie (22nd for ₩4,659,000), Taiwan's Chen An Lin (27th for ₩4,271,000), Malaysia's Victor Chong (39th for ₩3,572,000) and a former Red Dragon Main Event Champion in the form of Dengfeng "Denny" Yu (54th for ₩3,261,000).

Phachara Wongwichit, who had cashed in the ₩5,000,000 Single-Day High Roller, made it to another final table and nursed a shorter stack for most of the day before going on a heater late on. He was denied the victory and ultimately fell in third place, following Japan's Jun Obara to the payout desk who had to settle for 4th place.

Alex Lee was all in for 350,000 and Graeme Siow had repushed while Kannapong Thanarattrakul had a decision to make, having invested 100,000 until this point. Thanarattrakul folded fives and saw the following all-in showdown emerge.

Alex Lee: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

The {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} board provided no miracle for Lee and he departed in 19th place.

Thanarattrakul Busts and Wu Doubles in Dramatic Fashion

Kannapong Thanarattrakul
Kannapong Thanarattrakul

Jun Obara raised to 85,000 and Kannapong Thanarattrakul moved all in for 580,000. Yake Wu went all in over the top and Obara snap-called. Fei Xiong had raised over on the other table and faced a shove, hence the showdown did not proceed yet as it would be the possible money bubble. Xiong used one time bank and folded, the cards were then turned over on table one.

Kannapong Thanarattrakul: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Yake Wu: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Jun Obara: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}

The {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop brought no upset yet while Wu picked up a gutshot on the {k-Spades} turn. The rail exploded when the {j-Hearts} fell on the river as Wu hit a straight and survived the bubble. Thanarattrakul was eliminated and Wu doubled for 1,290,000 through Obara.

Ben Lai raised and Zhiqiang Qian three-bet to 400,000 out of the blinds. Lai jammed for just shy of a million and Qian called.

Ben Lai: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Zhiqiang Qian: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}

The heartbreak for pocket aces on the table continued as the board ran out {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Hearts} to give Qian a four-card flush. Lai had come back from a single T-5,000 chip only to bubble the tournament in most dramatic fashion.
