Third Pair No Good

Just before the break, James Dempsey took a few chips off an opponent. Dempsey was sitting on the button and bet 300 into a multi-way limped pot after a {K-Clubs} {3-Spades} {10-Diamonds} flop was dealt. Only a player in middle position called before both players checked through the {5-Diamonds} turn.

The river brought {Q-Clubs} prompting Dempsey to bet 500. His opponent insta-called with {10-Clubs}-x but it was no good to beat Dempsey's {Q-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}.

Dempsey up to 25,000 now.

Turning Rags into Riches

In the last hand before break, Jason Mercier tangled with one of his table mates in a pot worth more than 30,000 chips. Here's how the hand went down.

With Mercier on the button, he saw five players limp into the pot. Looking down at {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}, the pro came in with a raise to 1,050. Only one of the original limpers came along, and it was heads up to the flop.

It brought {4-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {5-Hearts}. The limper led out for a bet of 2,000, which Mercier called.

The turn came the {3-Spades}, and again there was an initial bet of 2,000, which Mercier matched.

Fifth street was the {3-Clubs}, and once more the player fired out 2,000 chips. This time though, Mercier moved all in for about 10,000, and his opponent made the call. Mercier turned over his {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}, prompting his opponent to slam the table in disgust. He shipped most of his chips across the table, quietly mumbling that he held {9-?} {9-?}. Mercier, meanwhile, is up to around 30,000 in chips.

Flushed Out

On the up again
On the up again
Four players were still involved in this pot when the turn was dealt that gave us a board that read {4-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}. It was checked to a player in middle position who fired 1,200 into the pot. Anthony Lellouche was the only caller from first position.

The river came {7-Diamonds} before Lelloche led out this time for a 3,600 bet that his opponent called. Lellouche showed {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} for the nut flush and that had the {Q-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} of his opponent well beat.

Lellouche back above his starting stack again with 21,000.

Trouble for Minieri

We pick up the action on the turn in a big pot involving Dario Minieri. The board showed {5-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {6-Spades}, and the turn brought the {8-Spades}. Dario bet out 12,000, and his lone opponent, Fabrice Le Corre, made the call.

The river came the {9-Hearts}. Minieri studied for a moment before moving all in, having his man covered. Le Corre made the call, and tabled {10-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} for the seven-card straight. Minieri open-mucked his {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} and sent most of his chips across the table. Despite being one of the early leaders, Minieri is down to 12,000 chips, and has been on a significant downward trend of late.

Two Outer for the Lone Lady

Fabrice Soulier
Fabrice Soulier
Fabrice Soulier's stack was already down to less than 10,000 but now it stands at just over 3,000.

He made a raise only to be reraised by the only lady competing today, Julie Donnaz, His response was to send a message by raising once more, but as soon as he did that his opponent moved all in. Soulier snap-called with pocket aces and was in great shape against his opponent's pocket jacks. Great shape that was until a nasty jack fell on the river!

"I Thought I Was Making a Value Bet!"

A player in first position called the 150 big blind before a player in middle position bumped it up to 300. A player in the next seat, both blinds and the original limper all called before a flop came down as {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {3-Diamonds}.

Jason Mercier, sitting in the big blind, led out for 1,100 when it was his turn to act. The only caller was the player in the first position. The turn {5-Diamonds} prompted both players to check before the river came {5-Hearts}. Mercier counted out a bet of 2,175 and tossed it into the middle.

His opponent made the call and Mercier revealed {A-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} but his opponent revealed {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} for the nut flush and the pot.

Mercier looked up and smiled as he said "I thought I was making a value bet!"

He still healthy on 28,500.
