Here Comes Heat #2

The second heat of the PartyPoker Premier League IV is set to kick off in little bit with another round of players taking to the felt. Yesterday's winner Phil Laak will be back in action and looking to go two-for-two after locking up a very important 16 points yesterday.

Joining Laak will be PokerNews' head honcho Tony G, David Benyamine and PartyPoker qualifier Giovanni Safina. Roland De Wolfe, JC Tran and Yevgeniy Timoshenko played yesterday and will all be playing today as well.

Phil Hellmuth will be playing today as well. He was situated in the production truck all day yesterday and had an inside look at the action. He was able to view everyone's hole cards and it'll be interesting to see how he alters his play based on what he saw from some of the players. He did mention that he's going to be playing super passive preflop and limp with big hands because he saw the players yesterday raising with some rather weak holdings.

Stay tuned for the live coverage, in the meantime check out the video with our new member Kristy Arnett and yesterday's winner Phil Laak.

The Yellow Jersey

Catch me if you can
Catch me if you can
It's come to our attention that Tony G had the idea of having the current points leader wear a bright yellow shirt in order to represent that he's at the top of the pack. Phil Laak is that player currently and has a bright yellow hooded sweatshirt on.

Hellmuth True to His Word

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth discussed yesterday that he was going to play passively preflop against the others who he thought were being too loose-aggressive in spots. After Phil Laak raised under the gun to 6,000 with the {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Yevgeniy Timoshenko folded in the small blind with {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, Hellmuth flat-called in the big blind with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Hellmuth check-called a bet of 8,000 from Laak.

The turn added the {J-Clubs} to the board and both players checked.

The river was an {8-?} and Hellmuth fired 15,000. Laak folded and Hellmuth scooped the first pot.

Sick Fold by Timoshenko

Roland De Wolfe raised to 5,000 with the {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and Yevgeniy Timoshenko called with the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Tony G called from the big blind with the {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

THe flop was an interesting one, {Q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Timoshenko added top pair, second kicker and Tony G flopped a set of fours. Tony G led out with a bet of 12,000 and De Wolfe folded. Timoshenko made the call.

The turn card was the {K-Clubs} and things got really exciting now as Timoshenko picked up top two pair. Tony G fired 30,000 and Timoshenko tanked. He just called the bet.

After the {A-Hearts} fell on the river, Tony G got tricky and checked his hand. Timoshenko went for value and bet 45,000. Tony G raised small to 100,000. Timoshenko tanked and eventually made an amazing fold to save a lot of chips.

Another Great Read for Timoshenko

Timoshenko really on his game today
Timoshenko really on his game today
Yevgeniy Timoshenko raised to 6,000 with the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. Phil Laak picked up the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} and reraised to 24,000. Giovanni Safina flat-called with {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and then Timoshenko called as well.

The flop came down {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Timoshenko checked. Laak checked as well and then Safina bet 33,000. Timoshenko just called, not looking to go broke. Laak took his time and then moved all in for 259,000. Safina folded and then Timoshenko took his time before folding as well. This is twice now that Timoshenko folded two hands where he could have easily gone broke on.

De Wolfe Getting to Hellmuth

Roland De Wolfe is really letting Phil Hellmuth have it. He's been bashing on him for his play in recent events including the WSOP-E and also making fun of him for not having won anything major in the recent years. At first, Hellmuth was giving some back to De Wolfe, but it now seems to be getting to me. He's just sitting there now with no emotion and not saying a word.

Timoshenko Making All the Right Decisions

David Benyamine limped from early position with the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and Yevgeniy Timoshenko raised to 8,000 holding the {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. Giovanni Safina called on the button with pocket threes and then Benyamine called as well.

The flop came down {A-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Timoshenko was put in another tough spot. Beyamine checked and Timoshenko bet 16,000. Safina just called and Benyamine folded.

The turn was the {5-Spades} and Timoshenko checked. Safina bet 50,000 into 59,000 and Timoshenko went into the tank. He has 124,000 left in his stack and would be committing a lot of his chips in the middle in order to call the bet and see the river. He tanked for several minutes and eventually folded his hand, saving himself yet again.
