Second Flight First Break

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

As the tournament clock ticks over, bringing level 8 to a close, the tournament director announces there will be a 30-minute break in play, as our 260 players frantically leave the tournament area for the bar or some fresh air.

Having a look round the current stacks, it seems as though we will be seeing some very big stacks taken through to Day 2 from this flight. There are already a number of stacks at or approaching the 200,000 mark. Our chipleader at the moment, though, is currently sat on 213,000.

Late registration closes at the end of the break, which will allow us to clear a little space to set up for the last flight of the day: a hyper-turbo with 10-minute blind levels starting at 1030pm!

Dropping Like Flies

Level 9 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Since the closure of late registration, our short stacks have been busting out left and right in an attempt to stay alive and run up a stack. We're down to 205 runners, which means there have been 55 exits in the last 15 minutes! As we did in the earlier flight, we'll be playing down until 10% of the field remains.

Meanwhile, the last of today's three flights is now underway: the 1030pm hyper-turbo, with 10-minute blinds.

Kubincova is now among our chipleaders
Kubincova is now among our chipleaders

Facing an early position raise, Ela Kubincova called out of the big blind as the pair went heads up to an {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop. Kubincova check-called, with the scariest card in the deck, the {6-Hearts} rolling off on the turn. This seemed to freeze the action, with both players checking the turn, as well as the {4-Diamonds} river.

Kubincova quickly rolled over {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for top set, while the origina raiser showed {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} with an audible sigh, as this wasn't the first time this happened to him today! As she stacks up a 195,000-chip stack, Kubincova is now among our chipleaders.

Game, Set And Match

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

We joined the action on table 37, where no fewer than six players opted to take a {q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop, five of whom chose to commit an additional 5,000 after the player in the cutoff bet out when checked to. With everyone just as suspicious as the next player, the dealer burned and turned the {j-Diamonds}. With the action checking around to the cutoff once more, he chose the no-nonsense option of moving all-in for his last 32,400.

The player on the button seemed contemplative for a moment, before hesitantly sliding chips over the line to make the call. The small blind also gave this one some thought, before deciding on a fold, with the rest of the field folding quickly. The cutoff whipped over {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, but it seemed the plauyer on the button was merely feigning hesitation, as he confidently tabled {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for flopped second set. The cutoff had two outs, but the {2-Spades} wasn't one of them, as he left the tournament area.

That leaves us with 158 players left in the 7pm flight, while we are up to 45 players in the 1030 hyper-turbo.
