Byron Sugars qualified for a Day 2 seat for just $2.20 three days ago. Fast-forward to today's Grand Prix UK Main Event Day 2E and Sugars is looking sweet for a Day 3 stack with over 2.6 million to his name.
"I've already cashed on a Day 2 online. I had 8 big blinds with a level to go and really just decided to go for it and run up a final day stack, knowing that I could always try again. As it happens, I've had to. But if I win, it'll be worth it."
Sugars would be winning twice in quick succession here at Dusk Till Dawn Casino, Europe's most popular cardroom. He took down the DTD200 event just weeks ago to bank £20,000, his best career cash to date. Tomorrow night could be very special indeed if it features the young father shooting for the prize of a lifetime for his family.
Charlie Godwin has been chipping up consistently since dropping to around 260,000 earlier on. That seems a long way behind now, as the London-based player has over 1.5 million and is cruising towards Day 3 as things stand.
"It was going even better, I had over two million at one point." Godwin told us. She is, however well above the 974,000 chip average in the room. Just 80 players remain on Day 2e.
Matthew Baker has been enjoying himself since he sat down on Day 2e, and for good reason - he already has another stack in the bank for Day 2f later on when it kicks off at 9pm online.
"It's going really well today," he told us. "I lost with queens to kings in the first hand after the break, but I've come back since and hit a flush when all-in with on the flop."
Having begun the day on 880,000 in this flight, Baker has now risen up the leaderboard with 1.4 million and is really cooking.
"I can really go for a big stack in the online flight, that's the plan if I get through with this." he told us.
Baker looks ready to make Day 3 with one of the biggest stacks...can he possibly top current overall Day 3 chip leader Richard King with over 13 million? Stranger things have happened.
James Pierce qualified for this Day 2e of the Grand Prix Main Event by some of the best value means possible.
"I played a freeroll at Rainbows in Bristol. I came at the end of registration, because otherwise you can make a lot of rebuys. I made sure I got my add-on and won a seat to the Day 1 on the following Saturday."
If the story was already good, Pierce wasn't finished.
"I qualified with around 350,000 and mistakenly thought all Day 2 players cashed. But I came here on my own. I know a few players here at Dusk Till Dawn, so it's always friendly. I'v doubled up now, so we'll see how we go."
Pierce does indeed have 700,000 and called the short-stack shove from his direct left in the last hand. His opponent held but Pierce's caught up across a board and he busted another.
We're back in Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham for the start of 2e and a spectacular day of poker, fun and partying the like of which Nottingham or anywhere may not have seen!
With Day 2e due to begin at 12 noon, the period of late registration will last just 45 minutes before players are locked into another 14-level shootout for a place in the final day's seat draw.
That's not all, however, as the LVL UP Players' Party is sure to make the night go off with a bang for everyone's buck. Many players have entered for a tiny amount online and will continue to do so in Day 1 and Day 2 flights online today rounding off the entries. While that means we won't know the final day line-up until just before it begins tomorrow what that means for players is something really very special.
Anyone can enter today for fractions of the £200+20 buy-in of a Day 1 on partypoker online. They can then play tonight's online Day 2 and make tomorrow's final, where they can shoot for the biggest slice of £1,000,000. A major title, a huge top prize and all for a tiny buy-in? This weekend could see a very special poker story play out.
