Piotr Szymczak opened this one up with a raise to 50,000 from UTG+1. Darren Delahunty moved all-in for his last 450,000 from the cutoff, with a dead button, before Yaozheng Zhou moved in with the cold 4-bet for 960,000. Szymczak thought for a very long time before folding what he claimed was
Delahunty turned over , with Zhou in great shape with . The flop had Delahunty drawing to running cards, and Szymczak feeling less red-faced about folding the best hand. The turn and river were both bricks and we lost Delahunty in 76th place.
Charlie Godwin has been chipping up consistently since dropping to around 260,000 earlier on. That seems a long way behind now, as the London-based player has over 1.5 million and is cruising towards Day 3 as things stand.
"It was going even better, I had over two million at one point." Godwin told us. She is, however well above the 974,000 chip average in the room. Just 80 players remain on Day 2e.
Bristolian Freeroll qualifier James Pierce not only made it through the bubble to make his trip to Nottingham a highly profitable one, he's very much involved with 80 players left and pushing for the guaranteed cash of £2,000 for making tomorrows Day 3.
"I was down to 200,000 with the big blind at 40,000 when I called a raise in the big blind. The flop came and I had so I called the bet of 200,000 from the opener, and it was called by the other player too. The turn didn't help either player and another six landed on the river. One opponent had but the other mucked. I'm now up over 1.3 million."
Carl Percy started this one off under the gun by fisting in a huge tower of purple chips to the tune of 120,000. Action folded round to Ben Shannon in the big blind who moved in for his last 340,000. Percy had no choice but to flick in the extra, and we were off to the races.
It was Shannon's that took the early lead on , leaving Percy's in the dust and drawing to just two outs. The wasn't one of them and neither was the , which meant Shannon picked up the full double.
Paul Damian tossed in a blue 100k-value chip from mid position, declaring "90,000." Philip Hughes, without breaking stride, instantly bumped it up to 250,000. The blinds got out the way and action was back on Damian, who flicked in the cool quarter million.
They went heads up to an flop, where Damian checked it over to Hughes, who bet 150,000. Damian immediately came over the top for his last 440,000 and was called just as quickly; all of a sudden we were playing for well over a million chips.
Paul Damian for a flush draw
Philip Hughes for top pair
The dropped to give both players a gutshot, with the bricking the river. Both red, neither heart, we lose Paul Damian, who takes away £600.
James Mitchell seems not to have been involved in major hands or at least major drama in his rise through the chip-counts here on Day 2e.
Despite that being the case, the London-based former Irosh Open champion continues his ascent towards a healthy Day 3 stack and a chance to win a massive top prize and glittering trophy yet again.
Byron Sugars qualified for a Day 2 seat for just $2.20 three days ago. Fast-forward to today's Grand Prix UK Main Event Day 2E and Sugars is looking sweet for a Day 3 stack with over 2.6 million to his name.
"I've already cashed on a Day 2 online. I had 8 big blinds with a level to go and really just decided to go for it and run up a final day stack, knowing that I could always try again. As it happens, I've had to. But if I win, it'll be worth it."
Sugars would be winning twice in quick succession here at Dusk Till Dawn Casino, Europe's most popular cardroom. He took down the DTD200 event just weeks ago to bank £20,000, his best career cash to date. Tomorrow night could be very special indeed if it features the young father shooting for the prize of a lifetime for his family.
