A Swift Chat

Katie Swift in the zone on Day 4. She is seven players from £1million.

Much of the interest before the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Main Event final has been in both ladies who have reached the final eight. One of the women with the million pound top prize in their sights is 34-year-old Katie Swift. The mother of one also runs a cafe business on the coast down in Kent and her family is right here on the rail supporting her.

"I don't really feel nervous, it's quite strange," she told us. "I only really felt it when I saw my Mum and Dad were here, along with my husband. Other than that moment though, I feel quite detached."

Swift has got to know most of her table opponents, and has armed herself with information.

"The way I see it, it's like having a toolbox and over the week I've been filling it up. I have the call, raise, check-raise, and I just need to know when to put each tool to use against each opponent. I've not been on the feature table until now, so while I've seen some of the players play, they haven't seen me. It's all situational, though, so we'll just have to see how it goes."

The cafe business is being run in her absence - no one is waiting on a bacon sandwich on the South coast - but Katie admits the paperwork is stacking up just like her chips have been in this record-breaking event.

"I do all the accounts, the paperwork, everything like that, so it's been left to pile up a bit this week, but I've been blown away by the messages of support I've received. Everyone has been so lovely, and honestly that's affected me far more than the poker itself. I'm really looking forward to it."

Katie Swift has been in the zone for four days and looks the same right now with the final about to start. Focused, of course, but also an odd blend of being a little detached from the room and zoned into doing everything she can to take down the trophy. It would be the second trophy her family have won this week.

"Our little boy won his cup final and I couldn't be more proud. Two trophies for the family this weekend would be great."

Swift's rail is by far the most vocal and everyone behind her on the rail seems as nice as Katie herself. There's no doubt that she would be a very popular winner both in the room and across the UK live poker circuit.

A Slight Delay in Nottingham

The cards were supposed to be in the air by now but between players having their pictures taken and the TV crew getting ready there's been a slight delay. Don't worry, the final table action should be underway any minute now.

Mulhern Picks Up Aces First Hand of the Final Table

Level 53 : 2,000,000/4,000,000, 400,000 ante

The action folded around to Mateusz Rypulak on the button, and he made it 9M to go. The other Golden Chip holder, Jacob Mulhern, found {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} in the small blind and came over the top for 23M. Maria Lampropoulou quickly got out of the way in the big blind, and after a bit of deliberation, Rypulak opted for the fold.

Chidwick Gets the Early Double

Mateusz Rypulak raised it up to 9M with {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} from middle position. Stephen Chidwick defended his big blind with {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, and the two of them saw an {8-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop. Chidwick opted for a check-call of 8M, leaving himself only 26,900,000 behind.

The {6-Spades} turn was everything Chidwick hoped for, and the Brit instantly made the call when Rypulak put him all-in. Rypulak were looking to improve on the river to get the knock-out, but it wasn't to be. The river {6-Diamonds} made Chidwick a full house, and the shortest stack of the final table secured an early double.

Side Event Update

With £1,000,000 in the prize-pool and £250,000 up top, no ordinary kind of side event is going on in parallel with the MILLIONS Main Event.

With 24 players remaining, the 8-Max £2,500+200 tournament in getting to the business end of proceedings and there are some very familiar names still involved.

Tony Dunst has 4.5 million and came into play with the chip lead, having crushed the last level of play. We caught up with as he made his way to the tournament area this morning.

"It's a super-fun tournament and £250,000 which is around $320,000 up top for a side event! There are tonnes of regular tournaments that can't provide that. It was a really long, intense day of poker yesterday. With the turbo flight, we played 20 levels of poker. That's a lot, but I feel fresh and I can't wait for the kick-off."

Since sitting down, former WSOP bracelet winner Dunst (pictured, right) has turned 3.6 million into 4.5 million, but he's still just below the lead. Juan Riera (pictured, left) has 4.6 million having burned through the first 30 minutes of play on a real heater.

Will Davies, a very popular player here in the United Kingdom, also has a big following on the rail and is growing a stack to do damage with 2.6 million chips. He's joined in the last three tables by Simon Higgins, who is slightly shorter at 800,000 chips, but is still casting an envious eye over at the Main Event.

"I'd be so nervous on that final table, but it's an amazing tournament." Higgins said of his fellow professionals going for a million up top. If Higgins was to win this incredible side event, he'd take home more than fifth place in the MILLIONS Main Event.

Murthy Takes from Swift

Level 54 : 2,500,000/5,000,000, 50,000 ante

Neel Murthy raised to 11M from under the gun with the {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Katie Swift called out of the big blind with {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}. The flop came {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Swift checked, Murthy bet 5M and Swift called.

After the {A-Hearts} turn, Swift checked again and Murthy's second bet got the job done.

Neel Murthy Eliminated in 8th Place (£72,395)

After claiming the pot against Katie Swift without showdown, Neel Murthy was in the big blind and faced a raise to 11M by Maria Lampropulos with {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and three-bet to 31M with the {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Lampropulos called and the flop fell {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to see Murthy continue for 22M, which Lampropulos called.

After the {4-Clubs} turn, Murthy counted his stack carefully before then moving all in for 83.5M. Lampropulos called and Murthy immediately left his chair, knewing he had no chance to win the pot. The American was drawing dead while the meaningless {A-Clubs} river completed the board, and Murthy takes home £72,395.

All remaining seven players have at least £100,000 locked up.
