Francis Foord-Brown Tops Day 1e of the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS in Nottingham

Level 25 : 8,000/16,000, 1,500 ante

It was another busy day at the home of poker in the United Kingdom, as both the main room as well as the Marquee room of the Dusk Till Dawn Nottingham cardroom were in use for the last Live Day 1 of the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS £5,300 Main Event. While the official numbers are yet to be confirmed, it seems that the £6m guaranteed flagship tournament of the festival has almost reached the guarantee already thanks to the additional 445 unique entries and 35 re-entries on Day 1e.

Furthermore, all players that carry chips over into Day 2 at the Dusk Till Dawn, as well as new participants, can still enter the competition and take advantage of a single re-entry option during the first two levels and subsequent break on Thursday, April 20th at approximately 3.50 p.m. local time. The blinds are rolled back to 10,000/20,000 with a running ante of 2,000, and all new entries would commence their attempt at claiming the guaranteed first-place payout of £1,000,000 with 50 big blinds.

Tomorrow's Day 2 will feature a total of eight levels of 75-minute with a split dinner break, and the field of hopefuls will be cut down significantly. It appears that Francis Foord-Brown will be leading the pack with 7,700,000, as that's what the Brit bagged up tonight. Foord-Brown scored his second-best result just two months ago after finishing 4th in the UO London Main Event for £23,000, but the payday here in Nottingham may very well be far bigger.

Other big stacks and notables include Carlos Sanchez Diaz (6,043,000), Ireland's Paul Carr (5,920,500), 2015 WPT Nottingham Main Event champion Iaron Lightbourne (5,706,000), Tomas Soderstrom (5,471,000), Steven Warburton (5,000,000), Lee Egan (4,186,000) and former back-to-back World Poker Tour champion Marvin Rettenmaier (3,758,000).

A trio of partypoker representatives also made it through in Mike Sexton (2,571,500), Boris Becker (1,992,000) and Tony Dunst (1,630,000), while fellow ambassadors Padraig Parkinson, Johnny Lodden, Natalia Breviglieri and Jan-Peter Jachtmann were eliminated during the ten 60-minute levels. Jachtmann was done for the day after a big three-way all in early on, and Parkinson's ace-king suited for flopped top pair and top kicker stood no chance at the flopped set of eighty by Gerald Karlic.

Other notables that will have to re-enter in order to take a shot at the guaranteed £6,000,000 prize pool are Sam Grafton, Adrian Mateos, Usman Siddique, Rehman Kassam, Joris Ruys, Ben Vinson, Jason Wheeler, Ben Heath, Felipe Ramos and Keven Stammen, as they were all sent to the rail as well.

Such a mammoth Day 1e field was going to take time to reduce, but several players endured early setbacks. Ian Simpson lost 70% of his million-chip starting stack when he ran his nut flush into a straight flush. Simpson would recover his starting stack on a comeback trail, but others were not so successful. Steve Watts lost not one but two entries. First his two-pair all-in on the flop lost to a straight draw after he was committed. Finally, he had top two pair against Steve O’Dwyer’s turned full house and called off his tournament life on the river.

O’Dwyer was the early pacesetter, and not just in the first few levels. The American-Irish High roller crusher was quick out of the blocks but kept sprinting, hoping to follow on from yet more recent success with another title. Seven-figure scores are his specialty – a nice one to have – and to win a million in pound sterling on Sunday would boost him to above Jason Mercier in the all-time money list. O'Dwyer advanced with an above-average 3,071,000, while Simpson has plenty of work ahead with 747,000.

Towards the end of the day, the action heated up significantly and fewer than 200 players out of the 480-entry strong field for Day 1e bagged up and will return tomorrow as of 1 p.m. local time to join all other Day 2 qualifiers at the Dusk Till Dawn. This includes online qualifiers from PartyPoker, as well as players that advanced through one of the Live Day 1s in Nottingham or via other live partners such as the 2017 Irish Open.

One thing is for certain: The poker action will be buzzing once again when the tournament recommences, and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide all the good and bad beats, setups and roller coaster runouts.

Lightbourne is Shining Again

Level 25 : 8,000/16,000, 1,500 ante
Iaron Lightbourne
Iaron Lightbourne

A massive pot of more than 1.7m was brewing between Iaron Lightbourne in the cutoff and Philip Hepburn in the big blind, the board was showing {9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Hepburn checked and Lightbourne moved all in, his stack was counted and the shove was for 1,509,500.

Hepburn ultimately called and then sighed when he spotted the cards of his opponent.

Iaron Lightbourne: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}
Philip Hepburn: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The {J-Spades} on the river was a brick and Hepburn lost a big chunk of his stack. Two years ago, Lightbourne won the £2,200 WPT Nottingham Main Event here in the Dusk Till Dawn for a career-best score of £200,000 and the Brit is looking for an even bigger payday in this week.

Parkinson and Cummins Eliminated

Level 25 : 8,000/16,000, 1,500 ante
Padraig Parkinson
Padraig Parkinson

Within quick succession, Padraig Parkinson and Keith Cummins ran out of chips on separate tables and both Irishman were eliminated.

Parkinson raised the button for 55,000 and Gerald Karlic defended the big blind. Karlic check-called a bet worth 80,000 on the {K-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop before then checking the {10-Diamonds} turn. Parkinson moved in for around 600,000 and Karlic snap-called.

Padraig Parkinson: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Gerald Karlic: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Parkinson was already drawing dead, making the {3-Diamonds} on the river a formality.

As for Cummins, he got it in for the last 375,000 with {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and failed to get there against the {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} of Sohnke Jahn. The board came {10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and the over card and flush draw would see no further improvement.

Natalia Breviglieri Plays ‘Would You Rather?’

Level 25 : 8,000/16,000, 1,500 ante
Natalia Breviglieri shares a joke at the felt during the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Main Event
Natalia Breviglieri shares a joke at the felt during the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Main Event

While taking on the massive fields and £6 million guarantee at Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn Casino, we cornered everyone’s favourite pint-sized partypoker pro, the ambassador who always spoils us here on the live reporting team.

Natalia Breviglieri has had some fantastic results since turning partypoker ambassador and her online profile is rising in time with her live tournament reputation.

Breviglieri is on the brink of special things in the poker industry, so we thought we’d put here to the test with a few questions designed to polarise her preferences.

Would you rather be freerolled into the Big One for One Drop this summer or be 21 again for a whole year?

That’s a really hard one! If I’m 21 for a year, do I know everything I know now or am I turning back the clock? Because if so, I’d be freerolled into the One Drop. If I knew the what I knew now, I’d quite like that… but I’d still play poker. I love the game.

Would you rather…have a WSOP bracelet and be flat broke or retain your bankroll and never win a bracelet?

I’d never win a bracelet, because it’s more about the game. I can finish second. It’s about playing; if I’ve still got the funds to play and I’m not going broke and having to build it all back up, I’d choose that. It’s tough building a roll - it took me six years or so, a very long time. I don’t want to do that again at my age!

Would you rather play only online or live for six months?

Kelly Saxby and Natalia Breviglieri
Kelly Saxby and Natalia Breviglieri

Online. It’s only six months, right? I could do with a break, I’ve been on a lot of flights this year. I’ve been to Prague, Rozvadov, Cork, Vienna and there are definitely more. I flew from the United Kingdom to Prague, then Rozvadov, it was a lot of flights in a week.

After the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Main Event, I’m heading to Rozvadov for the Grand Prix where there’s a 500,000 guarantee, then when the rest of the partypoker team go to Montreal, I’m taking a week off before Powerfest. A full fortnight of Powerfest, I can’t wait for that.

Straight after Powerfest, I’m heading back to Rozvadov for the Millions. From there, I’ll probably have five days to get my clothes ready for the summer in Vegas.

Would you rather have an entourage or rely on yourself for your poker career - who does the washing, cleaning and packing before trips or between long flights?

I do it all and I’m fine with it. I do all the repacking, the washing, the lot. I have absolutely no entourage yet! I have two cases containing hot wear and winter wear; I try to be really organised.

Sometimes I have less than 24 hours to get ready to go to play poker in a new country. From the partypoker Dusk Till Dawn Caribbean Poker Adventure in Punta Cana, I landed at 11.00pm then flew at 9pm the next night to Belgium. It was just crazy. From Belgium I went to Prague then wasn’t back until Christmas.

Natalia Breviglieri

Would you rather play the World Series of Poker or… actually, you’re 100% playing in Vegas this summer. What’s your schedule?

I’m going to be out there for around a month. When I first arrive, I realistically need three or four days to acclimatise, adjust my body clock, get some sun and maybe play a couple of nights of cash games. Then I’ll jump straight back in. The Monster Stack will probably be the first WSOP event I’ll play but then I’ll be selective.

I’ll definitely play the Main Event. I played it last year and of course played the Ladies Event before it, which I’ll do again this year. Last time it went well and I finished fourth, so that’s what I have to beat this year!

Padraig Parkinson all-in and at risk for his tournament life on Day 1e

Padraig Parkinson found the ideal spot to get his stack of 466,500 into the middle, which was over the top of a Mahmood Rashed three-bet to 131,000.

Rashed called it off from a stack of well over two million chips and there was a classic race on our hands.

Padraig Parkinson: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Mahmood Rashed: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}

The board was a low-yet-timid {6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and saw Parkinson double-up with just the thinnest sheen of sweat breaking out across his forehead. He's back to almost having starting stack, while Rashed still has a couple of three-bets in his armoury before even considering dropping back to average.

Farrell Busts Ross With Quads

Level 24 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Niall Farrell
Niall Farrell

The action started with a raise to 28,000 by Markus Ross from early position and he picked up two callers in Niall Farrell on the button and Bryan Ruiter in the small blind. On the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop, the action checked to Ross and he continued for 51,000. Only Farrell called and the {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn.

Ross moved all in for 240,000 and Farrell quickly called.

Markus Ross: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Niall Farrell: {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Ross had a gutshot, but instead the {8-Hearts} river gave Farrell quads to eliminate the Austrian in style. The same table also features Keith Cummins and Sohnke Jahn.

Watts Busted in Massive Pot

Level 23 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Steve Watts told us about his exit hand after getting into a raising war against his eventual conqueror.

"We'd been going at each other, but he bet 30,000 on the flop of {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades}. I raised to 90,000, he made it 220,000 and when I shoved he called. I had {Q-}{10-} and he had {J-}{9-}. He hit the king on the turn. There was 1.5million in the pot."

An inglorious end for Watts, but he has the option of a single re-entry on the day, or even a late registration early on tomorrow's Day 2.

Boatman Not a Believer in Bertilsson

Level 21 : 3,000/6,000, 600 ante
Boatman may need help to get back in the upper limits of the leaderboard after an early setback on Day 1e
Boatman may need help to get back in the upper limits of the leaderboard after an early setback on Day 1e

Barny Boatman and Anton Bertilsson played out a dramatic early hand here on Day 1e of the £6 million guaranteed partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Main Event.

We joined the action on the final street as a completed board had played out {8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and with a pot of 920,000 in the middle.

Bertilsson bet 215,000 and Boatman was the one with a decision. Only sat behind 900,000 and more than 1.1 million in the middle, Boatman elected to call and was shown {J-Spades}{10-Clubs} by Bertilsson, a flopped straight good enough to win a big pot. Boatman was full of praise for his opponent.

"You bet exactly the right amount on each street. Well played." said Boatman.

The young Swede Bertilsson thanked his more decorated opponent. Boatman of course, has a WSOP bracelet to his name, along with over $3.5 million of live tournament cashes. Bertilsson is no slouch, however, and already has $1.2m in live results in the bank. He also has the chip advantage over Boatman at their table here on Day 1e.
