O'Dwyer's Nightmare is Over

Level 39 : 80,000/160,000, 15,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

According to players at the table, Ivan Gabrieli check-called all in on a ten-high board with queen-high only and was good to score a double before then taking on Steve O'Dwyer again in another massive pot. Gabrieli check-called the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop and the {Q-Clubs} turn before checking the {K-Spades} river. O'Dwyer bet 1,800,000 into a pot of more than 3,000,000 and Gabrieli check-raised all in for 3,565,000.

O'Dwyer stood up from his chair, studied the board and talked through hands, also mentioning the crazy hero-call of the Italian from before. Ultimately, the American couldn't find a fold and Gabrieli showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for a full house, O'Dwyer mucked the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

Soon afterwards, it was all over for the American-Irish High Roller legend. O'Dwyer got it in with {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and table neighbor Paul Carr looked him up with {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and that was it for the man with the mango. Dario Sammartino walked over just at that time and joked to O'Dwyer "don't you know not to bluff Italians."

He'll already be looking at the recently begun £25,000 single-day Super High Roller.

Aldemir Get's the Knock-Out Eventually

Level 39 : 80,000/160,000, 15,000 ante
Koray Aldemir
Koray Aldemir

Koray Aldemir opened the action for 350,000, Gabor Csaba moved all-in for 1,2 million and back on Aldemir he hesitated to make the call, as he didn't seem to know how much, he actually had to call.

As soon he had confirmed the amount with the dealer he made the call, and Aldemir's {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} were well in front of Csaba's {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. The board ran out {8-Clubs}{J-Spades}{A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Aldemir scooped the pot.

"I just wanted to be sure, he didn't have more behind", Aldemir explained to the table, as he was stacking his newly-won chips.
"Well, those big sunglasses doesn't make it easier to see, does it?" a tablemate jokingly replied.

Spinks Doubles Through Jahn

Level 39 : 80,000/160,000, 15,000 ante

While Robert Schulz continues on an above-average stack, another German just took a big hit with pocket queens. Jon Spinks raised and subsequently four-bet shoved with the {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} to see the board run out {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Spinks doubled for 6,050,000, and that reduced Jahn to a mere 12 big blinds for the next level.

Muldoon Busts to Kassam in Consecutive Hands

Level 39 : 80,000/160,000, 15,000 ante
Michael Muldoon
Michael Muldoon

In a battle button versus small blind, Michael Muldoon and Rehman Kassam clashed with almost even stacks and the duo tabled the following cards.

Rehman Kassam: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Michael Muldoon: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{J-Clubs} and the kicker played. Kassam had a stack of 8,355,000 and Muldoon 30,000 more.

One hand later Warren Russell raised to 325,000 and Muldoon called all in for 15,000 from the cutoff. Kassam raised to 1,050,000 on the button to isolate successfully.

Michael Muldoon: {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Rehman Kassam: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board of {Q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades} brought no miracle and Muldoon was eliminated.

Mike Sexton Staying Active

Level 39 : 80,000/160,000, 15,000 ante
Mike Sexton
Mike Sexton

Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton might very well be the oldest player left in the field. At his age, it's important to stay active, and Sexton is doing just that by getting involved in plenty of hands.

First off Sexton was facing a bet of 1.1 million on the river of a {Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades} board, but though he looked very curious and already had cut out the chips for the call, Sexton ended up surrendering the pot to Louis Nyberg.

A few hands later he was at it again with Nyberg, and this time they had Tommaso Briotti involved in the hand with them. On a {7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{Q-Spades} board, Briotti made a bet of 850,000 from the small blind, Sexton called out of the big blind and Nyberg got out of the way. Briotti checked the {2-Clubs} river, and Sexton wasted no time firing 1.1 million, putting Briotti deep into the tank. Eventually, time was called on him, and halfway through the one-minute countdown the Italian quickly mucked his cards.

Players on First Break of the Day

Level 39 : 80,000/160,000, 15,000 ante

After two levels, the field has been thinned by 101 players. We started Day 3 with 253 in their seats, but only 152 remain after a frantic first period of the day.

The players left in contention have gone for a break, with everyone who's busted seemingly having registered in either the £1 million guaranteed £2,500+200 side event or the single-day Super High Roller, which has an entry fee of £25,000.

We'll be back at the tables when the players are, in 20 minutes.

Gabrieli Takes from Raja

Level 40 : 100,000/200,000, 20,000 ante

Asif Raja raised to 460,000 and Ivan Gabrieli three-bet to 1,060,000 in the cutoff, which Raja called. On the {K-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop both players checked and the {7-Hearts} turn saw Raja lead for 760,000, Gabrieli called. After the {Q-Spades} river, Raja made it 815,000 to go and Gabrieli quickly tossed in a chip for the call.

Raja showed {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a rivered pair of queens, and Gabrieli won the pot with {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}.
