Denisov Leads Last 200 After Day 2 of the MILLIONS Main Event in Sochi; Filatov Among Big Stacks

Level 16 : 35,000/70,000, 70,000 ante
Aleksandr Denisov tops Day 2 in Sochi
Aleksandr Denisov tops Day 2 in Sochi

Day 2 of the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Russia Main Event is in the books and as expected, the money bubble was not reached during the eight levels of play with the improved and slower tournament structure. Fewer than 700 entries were on the clocks when the action got back underway at the stunning Sochi Casino and Resort with 367 players having carried over stacks from the three live Day 1s at the venue.

The re-entry and registration period was open for another four levels and the live satellite winners and online Day 1 winners all took their seats, joined by several hopefuls that wanted to take a shot at the guaranteed prize pool of RUB300,000,000. Once the registration officially closed, the number of entries had climbed to 916 in total and the casualties kept coming at a quick pace to reduce the field to the last 200 at the end of level 16.

Aleksandr Denisov shot towards the top of the counts after claiming two big pots in the last level of the night and bagged up an impressive 19,035,000. Denisov arrived in the Triton Poker room with around 8.5 million and proceeded to knock out Josef Snejberg and Nikolay Dementiev in quick succession. Snejberg jammed the river of an ace-high board with the nut flush blocker and Denisov called with the second nut flush, he then turned a ten-high straight with eight-seven against the flopped set of tens of Dementiev to cement his top spot.

Second in chips is Aleksei Istomin with 15,355,000 followed by Oleg Netaliev with 14,630,000. Istomin usually calls Barcelona his home but already took part in the inaugural partypoker LIVE MILLIONS festival in Sochi in 2017. Netaliev spent the last two levels on the feature table along with Niall Farrell, partypoker ambassador Ludovic Geilich and defending champion Aleksandr Gofman. While Gofman (4,800,000) and Farrell (4,310,000) advanced to Day 3, Geilich was ousted in the last level of the day when his jack-ten suited could not beat the ace-queen of Richard Hasnir. Fellow partypoker ambassadors Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Open runner-up Dzmitry Urbanovich were eliminated on Day 2, their teammates Anatoly Filatov (8,240,000) and Philipp Gruissem (4,280,000) both advanced.

Other big stacks and notables still in contention for the top prize of RUB60,000,000 include Andrey Kotelnikov (10,280,000), Michael Sklenicka (9,335,000), Denis Pisarev (8,800,000), Andrey Pateychuk (8,725,000), Day 1A chip leader Oleksii Kravchuk (7,980,000), Vadim Lipovka (7,600,000), Maxim Lykov (6,750,000), Vladimir Shchemelev (6,740,000), Igor Yaroshevskyy (6,535,000), Ionut-Flavius Voinea (5,975,000), 2017 third-place finisher Aleksandr Merzhvinskiy (4,850,000) and MILLIONS Nottingham champion Maria Lampropulos (3,800,000).

Among those to bust without anything to show for were Kiryl Radzivonau, Mihails Morozovs, Dmitry Vitkind, Alexander Lakhov, Daria Feshchenko, Bartlomiej Machon, Andrey Zaichenko, David Urban, Leonid Bilokur, Anton Yakuba, Dietrich Fast, Rickie Silcock and Finnish superstar Patrik Antonius. Most of them may take another shot at glory here in Sochi in the upcoming High Roller, however, and the players party in the mypartypokerlive lounge also awaits to drain the sorrows.

Day 3 of the Main Event will recommence at 12 p.m. noon local time with level 17 and blinds of 35,000/70,000 with a running ante of 70,000. All tables will continue eight-handed and the 30-second shot clock will be introduced one table off the money. Only the top 119 spots will get paid and the PokerNews live reporting team will be there to provide all the action from the floor. Furthermore, two feature tables will run on a security delay of 30 minutes with hole cards up.

Geilich Vanishes on the Feature Table

Level 16 : 35,000/70,000, 70,000 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

Mid-way through the last level of the day on the feature table, Ludovic Geilich moved all in first to act for the last 905,000 with the {J-Spades}{10-Spades}. He found one opponent in Richard Hasnir with the {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} in the hijack and the board of {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} sent the Scotsman to the rail.

Kotelnikov and Denisov Win Monster Pots

Level 16 : 35,000/70,000, 70,000 ante
Dmitry Yurasov loses a big chunk
Dmitry Yurasov loses a big chunk

Table 49 just provided two massive pots within ten minutes to see former big stack Dmitry Yurasov cut down and Josef Snejberg eliminated, while Andrey Kotelnikov and Aleksandr Denisov shot to the top of the leaderboard.

First, it was a raising war between Kotelnikov and Yurasov that saw the former all in and at risk for 5.25 million.

Andrey Kotelnikov: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Dmitry Yurasov: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

The board came {J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and the aces held up.

Then, the completed board showed {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Snejberg moved all in from the small blind for 3.245 million and Denisov gave it some thought before calling. Snejberg rolled over the {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for the nut flush blocker and Denisov scooped the massive pot with {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for the second nut flush.

Ashraf Eliminated By Two Outer

Level 15 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Waheed Ashraf
Waheed Ashraf

The flop was down {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}, and Gytis Lazauninkas had checked from early position to Waheed Ashraf on the button, who bet 225,000. Ashraf had about 1.3m behind him and Lazauninkas, who had him covered, moved all in. Ashraf needed a minute to think before he decided to call.

Waheed Ashraf: {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Gytis Lazauninkas: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Lazauninkas had a commanding lead with his overpair to the board, and Ashraf needed help, which is exactly what he got on the turn when the dealer flipped over the {q-Hearts} to give him two pair. But his lead lasted a matter of milliseconds when the river card was revealed to be the {j-Clubs} to give Lazauninkas a surprise set and a lock on the pot to eliminate Ashraf.

Sinclair on the Rise on the Feature Table

Level 15 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Jack Sinclair
Jack Sinclair

Over on the feature table, Ilia Kuteinokov raised and then four-bet all in from early position with the {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and Vladimir Shchemelev, who had three-bet the hijack with the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}, quickly called to put his opponent at risk for 945,000.

The board came {6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades}{K-Hearts} and that was it for Kuteinokov.

At the same time on the secondary feature, Denis Ten had gone all in with {A-Spades}{5-Spades} for 575,000 and Jack Sinclair called in the big blind with {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. The {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop brought some chop outs, but the {J-Spades} turn and {8-Clubs} river brought no help.

Sinclair had built his stack further just before that after he flopped two pair with seven-six and called the river bet of 400,000 by Daria Feshchenko in the big blind. The nine paired on the river to counterfit Sinclair's hand, but he looked through the bluff attempt of Feshchenko with a busted straight draw and took over the lead on the table.

More for Pateychuk; Adams Busts Shaulskiy

Level 13 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Timothy Adams in an earlier event
Timothy Adams in an earlier event

Igor Yaroshevskyy raised from under the gun and Andrey Pateychuk three-bet to 275,000 on the button, which big stack Yaroshevskyy called. On the {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, Yaroshevskyy checked and Pateychuk claimed the pot with a continuation bet of 225,000.

Sergey Shaulskiy moved all in for his last 535,000 from early position and Timothy Adams called from one seat over, the rest of the table including Aymon Hata in the big blind folded.

Sergey Shaulskiy: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Timothy Adams: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}

On the {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop, Adams picked up a flush draw and sure enough immediately got there on the {8-Hearts} turn to leave his opponent drawing dead. The meaningless {Q-Diamonds} river was a needle for Shaulskiy, and Hata said "I had queen three of hearts" in table chat to Adams.

The board was down {q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} when Niall Farrell bet 700,000 into a pot of around 800,000.

In the big blind and facing the decision was Andrey Chesnokov. He thought for a minute and counted his chips before he made a move and called.

Farrell flipped over {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a flush and took down the pot after Chesnokov mucked. The Scot is now up to 3.3m in chips after previously having a slow start to the Main Event in yesterday's Day 1c when he fired two bullets unsuccessfully.
