partypoker US Network Players Choice Series (Dec.13-20)

The partypoker US Network Players Choice Series Event #2: $109 Heads-Up (64 Max) was as big of a success as it could have been Monday evening, filling to its capacity of 64 entries more than two hours prior to start of the tournament.

With a heads-up format, play started with 32 matches among 64 players, a number that would be halved six times before declaring a winner. Five hours after the tournament began, that winner was declared in "pay4medsch00l".

"pay4medsch00l" won their final heads-up match over "madroc" in 15 minutes of play, doing so after being the second of the two to win their semifinal match against "MegaWinner" in a back-and-forth battle that lasted for nearly 40 minutes.

Mike "MistaMenza" Menzer was the first of 64 to find the rail after losing his first-round match to "UAUTCU", who won their second-round match against "Selurznug" before losing their third match to finish in 11th place ($208). "Selurznug" also had a first-round match of note, eliminating Borgata Ambassador Katie "KatieStone" Stone.

The second round began with 16 new matches, all of whose winners would make it into the money. However, players such as Vinny "brownmagic" Pahuja and Angel "chromeking" Lopez were among those to fall short. Eric "alwaysliquid" Vanauken also fell short after he was unable to beat "BigDickRick" to end the round, finishing the tournament in 17th place.

The 16 players that made it into the money quickly became eight, and that number even more quickly became four as Dan "mj23style" Sewnig fought his way into the final quarterfinal match, only to fall to to "BigDickRick" just like Vanauken two rounds earlier.

With the semifinals set, both matches took parallel routes that saw chips go back and forth. Eventually, "madroc" took a lead they would never relinquish over "BigDickRick" and quickly made it into the finals. "pay4medsch00l" also took a lead over "MegaWinner" that they would momentarily give up before regaining form and taking all the chips in the match, and 15 minutes later had done the same against "madroc" to make the results of both the match and the tournament official.

"pay4medsch00l" pumped it up to 1,500 on the button and saw "madroc" three-bet to 4,200 in the big blind. "pay4medsch00l" called to bring a flop of on board. "madroc" checked to "pay4medsch00l", who bet 2,100, and then "madroc" check-raised to 6,000. "pay4medsch00l" called.

The turn came and "madroc" went all in for 24,000, just over the size of the pot. "pay4medsch00l" wasted no time calling.

"madroc" saw the bad news after being called; they had one shot left at the three remaining kings in the deck and none fell as the river completed the runout to result in the pot being sent to "pay4medsch00l", who found themselves having accumulated all of the chips in their heads-up match for the sixth and final time of the tournament.

"madroc" fell just one win shy of "pay4medsch00l" and finished in second place as a result, earning $784 for their performance while "pay4medsch00l" has become the champion of Event #2 for $1,552. A full recap of the action will be provided shortly.

"pay4medsch00l" was on the button and completed to put action onto "MegaWinner" in the big blind, who raised to 4,200. "pay4medsch00l" called.

The flop fell and "MegaWinner" made a continuation-bet of 6,500. "pay4medsch00l" raised enough to put "MegaWinner" all in and they called.

Despite having the better hand at the moment, "MegaWinner" needed to fade diamonds and nines, and the turn did not do that. The river did re-improve them to a pair of kings, but it also gave "pay4medsch00l" a flush and made the result of the match official with "MegaWinner" taking third place in the tournament as a result.

"BigDickRick" was on the button and raised their option to 1,600. They were three-bet to 4,400 by "madroc" in the big blind and called, bringing a flop of .

"madroc" checked and "BigDickRick" bet 3,200. "madroc" check-raised to 9,200, sending action back over to "BigDickRick," and they three-bet shoved for 21,345. "madroc" called.

"BigDickRick" was ahead with a chance to bring stacks back to level, but despite the safe turn , they were unable to do so as the river gave "madroc" Broadway to result in their elimination from the tournament in fourth place. They earned $528 for their performance, while "madroc" has become the first of two players to make it into the finals, and now awaits the result of the other semifinal match between "MegaWinner" and "pay4medsch00l", where the former has just found a double and has taken the chip lead. "BigDickRick" opened to 2,400 on the button and Dan "mj23style" Sewnig three-bet jammed for his last 25,585. "BigDickRick" called.

Sewnig had plenty of life and picked up even more on the flop as he found himself with a gutshot straight flush draw. The flush landed on the turn , but the river put one too many spades on board for him as it also gave "BigDickRick" the nut flush to re-improve to the best hand and eliminate Sewnig in fifth place.

All of the chips went into the middle before the flop with "upayformypennys" being the one on the button and at risk for their last 21,670. "MegaWinner" was in the big blind and the two were in a coin-flip situation.

A flop of left "upayformypennys" out in front but gave them three more outs that they needed to fade due to a potential double-paired board bringing a counterfeit. Such a possibility came true on the turn , and they were unable to find any help of their own on the river to become the third elimination of the round, taking sixth place and earning $336 for their efforts.

One more match remains between "BigDickRick" and Dan "mj23style" Sewnig, with the winner due to set the lineup for the semifinals.

There was 17,000 in the middle on a board of with "maniacalmonk" first to act in the big blind. They had 34,000 in their stack and shoved for two-times the size of the pot, putting action onto "pay4medsch00l" on the button. A few seconds later, a call was made.

"ChickenTendies" completed on the button and "upayformypennys" checked their option in the big blind. The flop came and "upayformypennys" led out with a bet of 1,000. "ChickenTendies" called.

The turn was and "upayformypennys" led out again for another 3,200. "ChickenTendies" raised to 9,100 and "upayformypennys" three-bet to 25,500. "ChickenTendies" four-bet jammed and "upayformypennys" called for slightly less.

"upayformypennys" got stacks in after turning a straight and needed to fade their opponent's outs to a full house to double. The river was safe and the pot was shipped their way, leaving "ChickenTendies" with just 6,400.

"ChickenTendies" did find a double but eventually got their last 15,000 into the middle and lost to finish in ninth place.

The start of the level saw Eric "alwaysliquid" Vanauken lose more than half his stack and upon being down to just under 10,000, called an all-in shove from the big blind for the rest of it.

The flop gave Vanauken nine more outs to sweat, and while he faded those nine through both the turn and river , he saw the final card give his opponent a pair of queens and eliminate him in 17th place.

Vanauken's elimination marks the end of Round Two, and all 16 remaining players have officially made it into the money and will earn at least $208 for their efforts.

All of the chips had gone into the middle postflop between "mia1223" in the big blind and Dan "mj23style" Sewnig, who was on the button. The runout was in the process of finishing to show a board of with a total pot of 90,000, meaning Sewnig barely had his opponent covered.

Both players connected with the flop, though "mia1223" saw their two pair run into Sewnig's flopped straight. Nothing changed as the turn and river made the hand official and "mia1223" was eliminated in 19th place while Sewnig has become the most recent player to make it into the money.
