Aflano Fills Up Against Veliu

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Dan Alfano
Dan Alfano

After the player on the button limped, Dan Alfano raised to 2,400 from the small blind. Alida Veliu called from the big and then the limper popped it to 6,200.

Both Alfano and Veliu called, the flop fell {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}, and all three players checked.

After the dealer burned and turned the {7-Spades}, Alfano bet 8,000 and Veliu raised to 16,500. That chased out the button, but Alfano called to see the {9-Diamonds} double pair the board on the river.

Alfano opted to lead out for a modest 10,000 and Veliu quickly called.

Alfano tabled the {q-Spades}{k-Clubs} as Veliu mucked while claiming to have had a nine.

Got Garlic?

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Dax Funderburk
Dax Funderburk

Dax Funderburk, who is sporting a hat that asks "Got Garlic?", raised to 2,600 under the gun and was met by a three-bet to 6,000 from the player on the button.

Both blinds folded and Funderburk called to see a {4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} flop.

Funderburk proceeded to check-call a bet of 4,500 before both players checked the {a-Hearts} turn.

When the {6-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn, Funderburk bet 8,500 and his opponent paid it off.

"I've got a set," the garlic man said as he rolled over the {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for the rivered set. It was good as his opponent mucked in frustration.

"You had to go all the way to town for that," someone else at the table quipped.

"I Should've Folded the First Time"

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Over at Table 43, action folded to the player on the button and he raised to 3,000. Ken Goodkind defended his big blind and then turned around and led out for 3,000 of his own on the {4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop. The played on the button called.

After the {7-Hearts} appeared on the turn, Goodkind bet another 3,000, which his opponent called.

On the {6-Hearts} river, Goodkind downsized to 2,000 and his opponent sort of shook his head and tossed in a call while saying, "I should've folded the first time. You have an ace."

Indeed, Goodkind tabled the {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for top pair and his opponent flashed the {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} before sending his hand to the muck.

Turned Nine Gives Nguyen New Life

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Buudang Nguyen
Buudang Nguyen

The player in the cutoff raised to 2,500 and the button called. The player in the small blind came along before Buudang Nguyen three-bet jammed for 35,700 from the big.

The original raiser folded, the button moved all in over the top for 88,900, and the small blind folded.

Buudang Nguyen: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Button: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Nguyen was in dire straits but you can guess from the title of this post what happened. That's right, the board ran out {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Nguyen turned a set to score the double.

Big Slick Does the Trick for Gomez

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Sean Gomez
Sean Gomez

A player in middle position raised to 3,500 and Sean Gomez responded by three-betting all in for 25,300 from the small blind. The original raiser gave it some thought and then dropped in a call.

Sean Gomez: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

"Nice hand, bud," the bigger stack offered.

Gomez was well out in front and he distanced himself when the {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{k-Spades} flop paired his king.

The {a-Diamonds} turn locked it up for Gomez and he shipped the double after the meaningless {6-Diamonds} was run out on the river.
