"I'm The New ElkY"

Ten minutes after winning a massive pot with aces, PokerStars Team Pro Arnaud Mattern was dealt pocket rockets again, and won another massive pot.

Mattern opened to 500 from early position, Robson Carlos Venturini three-bet to 1,200 near the button, and the action folded back to Mattern who four-bet to 4,400. Venturini responded by throwing out a rainbow stack of chips in the middle, Mattern moved all in, and Venturini snap-called.

Showdown
Mattern: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Venturini: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, and Venturini stormed away from the table, muttering what we can only guess were "earmuff" words in Portuguese.

"I'm the new ElkY," Mattern chuckled. "This is such an easy game."

"That's ridiculous," tablemate and fellow Team Pro Liv Boeree added.

Mattern is on an absolute tear, and leads the pack with over 140,000 chips.

Duhamel Dusted

Jonathan Duhamel - out
Jonathan Duhamel - out

After cashing in the $100,000 Super High Roller event yesterday, Jonathan Duhamel was freerolling into the Main Event with more than $100,000 in profit to start 2012. Unfortunately, he's now 1-for-2 in PCA cashes as his day has come to an early end.

We missed the hand that did him in, but Duhamel was under starting stack when he ran his pocket aces into an opponent's pocket queens in a double-or-nothing pot. The overpair betrayed the 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion, and his aces fell to send him out to the beach a bit sooner than he'd planned.

Flush for the Dutchman

PokerStars Team Pro Marcel Luske opened to 600 from early position, and received three calls. The dealer fanned {9-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, and all four players checked. The turn was the {6-Spades}, and a player in the small blind led for 1,200. Only Luske called.

The river was the {a-Hearts}, and the player in the small blind checked to Luske, who tossed out 3,000. Luske's opponent called, and Luske tabled {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a flush. His opponent mucked, and the Dutchman pulled in the pot to push his stack back above 30,000.

Small Pot For Pagano

Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano

Luca Pagano called a raise on the button to see a {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop.

His opponent bet 600, which Pagano quickly called. The {4-Diamonds} turn was checked to Pagano who bet 1,500. His opponent called and both checked the {Q-Diamonds} river.

Neither was crazy about showing, but Pagano showed {J-Spades}{10-Clubs} for second pair to win the hand.

Giannetti's Here

We've seen most of the 2011 November Nine here in the PCA Main Event, and we just spotted Matt Giannetti along the wall on the far side of the room. We walked over just in time to see him playing a heads-up pot, and it looks like he was the preflop three-bettor. Either way, we walked up as the flop rolled out {5-Spades} {6-Hearts} {3-Spades} and his opponent checked to him. Giannetti fired out 2,000 into a pot of about 6,000, and Mr. Opponent check-raised big to 10,025 total. Giannetti had 18,000 chips left behind, and he spent a couple long minutes in the tank before surrendering his cards into the muck.

Baldy Doubles

When we reached the table, the flop, turn, and river had already been dealt: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts}. Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin was all in for around 20,000 or so, and his opponent was in the tank. He eventually called, and Baldy turned over {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for a straight. His opponent tried to muck, but someone at the table request to see the hand, and the dealer the {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} to the table.

With the double, Baldwin is now over 60,000 chips.

One for Harman

On the {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop, three players, including Jen Harman and Matt Vengrin, all checked to see the {Q-Clubs} come on the turn. After the first player checked fourth street, Harman bet 700. Vengrin called and the other player folded.

The {K-Spades} landed on the river and both players checked. Harman opened the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and Vengrin mucked his hand.
