Shak Gets Them Back

In a battle of the blinds, Viktor Blom called a raise to 125,000 from Dan Shak, and the two men saw a {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {10-Clubs} flop. Shak continued out with another 125,000, and Blom called rather quickly. The turn {K-Clubs} drew another bet from Shak — 150,000 this time. Blom couldn't call the second bullet, uncapping his cards and returning them to the dealer face-down.

"You play cash games or mostly tournaments?" Viktor Blom asked the out-of-the-blue question to Galen Hall.

Hall quietly said, "Tournaments," and Blom nodded.

From the other side of the table, Dan Shak joined in the conversation with a big laugh. "You ain't gonna see us much in your cash games," he said to Blom.

They're both probably bankrolled for some nosebleed side action, but Shak and Hall seem rather comfortable in their roles as tournament specialists.

Shak Four-Bets

Dan Shak raised to 85,000 on the button and Viktor Blom re-raised to 270,000 from the small blind. After Galen Hall folded his big blind, Shak four-bet to 850,000. Blom folded instantly, giving Shak the pot.

"Four-bet bluff?" asked Vanessa Selbst from the audience.

"I don't four-bet bluff", replied Shak. "I don't watch any "Isildur1" videos online."

Shak Within Striking Distance

Viktor Blom raised first to act, and Dan Shak called to see what the board would bring.

For starters, it brought {5-Hearts} {2-Spades} {A-Hearts}, and Shak check-called 115,000. On the turn {K-Clubs}, Blom bet another 280,000, and Shak matched him once again. The river came the {Q-Diamonds}, and the two men were content to check it down.

Shak showed {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} for the winning pair of aces, and Blom flashed his {K-Hearts} {7-Hearts} that couldn't get over the hump.

Shak has closed the gap, climbing to within a million chips of Blom now.

Shak Wins Last Hand Before Dinner Break

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Viktor Blom raised to 90,000 on the button and Dan Shak called from the big blind.

The flop fell {J-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Shak check-called 115,000 from Blom. The {4-Hearts} turn was checked by both and when the {2-Hearts} hit the river, Shak fired 125,000. Blom gave it up, ending the level and sending the players on a one-hour dinner break.

Shak Flops the Joint

Level 18 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Viktor Blom opened from the button, and both Galen Hall and Dan Shak came along with him to see a family flop.

The dealer spread out {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}, and it checked around to the {10-Spades} turn. When Hall checked again, Shak decided to fire out with 300,000, and both opponents folded in turn.

When the dealer pushed him the pot, Shak said, "Look at that flop!" and flashed his king-jack. "How did I not win a huge pot there?" he lamented.
