Mike Watson Eliminated in 3rd Place ($462,320)

Mike Watson - 3rd Place
Mike Watson - 3rd Place

Mike Watson opened to 80,000 on the button with {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, Vanessa Selbst three-bet to 210,000 from the small blind with {k-Spades}{q-Spades}, and Vladimir Troyanovskiy folded {6-Hearts}{6-Spades} in the big blind. Watson called.

The flop fell {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}, Selbst led for 260,000, and Watson tanked for a minute or so before calling. The {q-Clubs} turned, and Selbst reached for chips, but eventually checked. Watson reached for yellow T25,000 chips, added a few blue T5,000 chips on top, then slid forward 320,000. Selbst called.

The {2-Spades} completed the board, giving Selbst a flush, and she checked, setting a trap for Watson. He walked right into it, moving all in for a pot-sized bet, and Selbst snapped it off.

Watson was eliminated in third place, and we are now heads up for the $25,000 High Roller championship!

Selbst Takes First Two

Vladimir Troyanovskiy opened to 85,000 on the button with {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}, Vanessa Selbst three-bet to 255,000 from the big blind with {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Troyanovskiy found a fold, and Selbst took the first pot.

On the second hand, Selbst opened to 80,000 on the button with {a-Spades}{9-Spades}, Vladimir Troyanovskiy defended with the {a-Hearts} and an unknown card. The flop fell {8-Hearts}{j-Spades}{8-Spades}, Troyanovskiy check-called a bet from Selbst, and the turn brought the {j-Clubs}. Troyanovsky check-called another bet, and the {6-Spades} completed the board.

Both players checked. Troyanovskiy showed {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, which was no good against Selbst's flush.

Troyanovskiy Drops Below 2MM

Vanessa Selbst raised to 40,000 with {K-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Vladimir Troyanovskiy defended the big with {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Both players then checked the {6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop, and the {5-Spades} appeared on the turn. Troyanovskiy led out for 70,000, Selbst called, and the {3-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Troyanovskiy bet 180,000 and Selbst snap-called with two pair and a king kicker to win the pot. With that, Troyanovskiy dropped to 1,765,000.

Troyanovskiy Correctly Folds Two Pair on the River

Vanessa Selbst min-raised to 100,000 with {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Vladimir Troyanovskiy called from the big blind with {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. The latter then checked the {3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop, and then check-raised to 250,000 when Selbst bet 100,000. The Team PokerStars Pro called and then Troyanovskiy slowed down with a check when he made two pair on the {A-Clubs} turn.

Selbst took the opportunity to bet 225,000, Troyanovskiy called, and the {5-Hearts} spiked on the river to give Selbst a straight. It was a bad time for Troyanovskiy to lead out, but he did so with a bet of 500,000. Selbst then announced, "All in," and Troyanovskiy's eyes shot up.

He scratched his head, looked back at his opponent and sat in heavy contemplation for several minutes. Eventually the Russian looked back at his hand and then let it go.

Troyanovskiy Doubles

Vladimir Troyanovskiy shipped for 720,000 from the small blind and received a quick call from Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, who could only roll her eyes upon discovering her {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades} was dominated by the {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} of Troyanovskiy.

The {2-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop wasn't helpful to Selbst, though the {A-Hearts} turn gave her a gutshot Broadway draw. Unfortunately for her, the {4-Clubs} wasn't it and Troyanovskiy doubled.

Troyanovskiy Doubles Again

Vladimir Troyanovskiy raised to 100,000 on the button holding {A-Spades}{9-Clubs} and Vanessa Selbst called from the big blind with {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, bringing about a flop of {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}.

Selbst checked, Troyanovskiy continued with a bet of 100,000, and Selbst called with her pair of tens. Selbst then turned right around and moved all in when the {6-Diamonds} turn gave her the nut-flush draw, and Troyanovskiy called off for 1.165 million. Selbst needed either a ten, jack, king or diamond to win on the river, but she was left wanting as the harmless {2-Hearts} appeared.

Pair of Fours > Pair of Deuces

Vanessa Selbst opened to 100,000 on the button with {j-Spades}{2-Spades}, Vladimir Troyanovskiy defended with the {q-Hearts} and an unknown card, and the dealer fanned {9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, Troyanovskiy led out for 100,000, and Selbst called.

The {8-Clubs} completed the board, and Troyanovskiy checked. Selbst checked behind. The Russian exposed his second card - the {4-Hearts} - and he won the pot.
