Hu Forces Out Erquiaga

Level 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

A preflop raising war saw David Erquiaga squeeze to 70,000 out of the big blind. It folded back to Jinlong Hu, who moved all-in for more than 200,000. Erquiaga was covered by then and tank-folded.

"Maybe same hand," he joked while Hu replied "nice fold".

McAllister Jumps Above Half a Million

Level 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

On the tail end of a 532Q4 board, Ryan McAllister overbet the pot for 50,000 and that sent Joseph Reyes into a frenzy. More than a minute passed and Reyes called, then mucked when the table chip leader revealed A6 for the six-high straight.

Gonzaga Runs Hot to Bust Galvez and Misailidis

Level 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

The cards of Renniel Galvez were already dragged into the muck when he could not beat the AA of Terry Gonzaga on the J105AQ runout.

Soon after, Gonzaga picked up another premium pocket pair to take on Konstantinos Misailidis. The Greek flopped a set of jacks but the uproar on the table concluded another fortunate runout for Gonzaga with the QQ. As the board came J627Q, Gonzaga rivered the superior set.

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Nicola Montalbano
Nicola Montalbano

Just before the blinds had gone up, Nicola Montalbano three-bet to 18,000 and Wee Lee Lim then four-bet pushed for 109,000. Montalbano asked for an exact count and made the call, setting up the most classic of coin flips.

Wee Lee Lim: AK
Nicola Montalbano: QQ

The J97Q6 board gave Montalbano a set of queens and Lim missed out on a gutshot.

Ong Escapes From Elimination

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Linh Ran Nguyen had won yet more chips while Jason Ong on the same table was left with a short stack, which he pushed in from an early position for 37,500. Chip leader Ryan McAllister called and everybody else got out of the way.

Jason Ong: A10
Ryan McAllister: 88

The 533 flop and 7 turn were of no help. However, Ong spiked the A on the river to survive. Kar Sing Thong and Maria Argao were not as fortunate as both departed moments later on different tables.

The recent carnage has whittled down the field to just 56 hopefuls of which 40 will advance to Day 2 from this very flight.

Thompson Binks the River to Recover Losses

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Gary Thompson had previously lost a big pot to Byungwook Anh, who joined the current chip leaders.

He avoided another major setback in a classic coin flip with Jimmy Johan soon thereafter.

Jimmy Johan: 1010
Gary Thompson: AQ

The J104 flop improved Johan to a set and the 5 turn only had him fear one of the remaining four kings on the deck. Sure enough, that's what came on the K river as Johan jumped out of his chair in disgust.

Rivera Eliminated by Nagy

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Euryd Rivera pushed all-in for a short stack of 33,500 and the action folded all the way to Andrej Nagy in the big blind. The Slovakian tanked and then came along with the superior stack.

Euryd Rivera: K9
Andrej Nagy: A7

No help came for the player at risk on the 1062 flop and 8 turn. Both now had a gutshot and it was Nagy who improved on the 9 river, sending Rivera to the rail and reducing the Day 1b field to seven tables.
